Blanco could miss the first week of the season

Heard it on ESPN 1000 this morning...

 

Apparently Blanco's representative was indicted on counts of conspiracy to smuggle Cuban players into America. Neither Blanco nor the Cubs are under suspicion of any wrongdoing, but since Blanco's agent used Blanco's bank account to launder the money, Blanco was subpoenaed and has to testify.

 

In Venezuela.

 

He's scheduled to fly down there on the Cubs' off day Tuesday, and hopes to testify Wednesday, but depending on how long all that takes, it could be Thursday or Friday before he's back with the team.

Possibly. The Cubs didn't call up Soto or Reyes during Barrett's 10-game suspension.

Neither Koyie or Jake Fox are on the 40-man, while Geovany Soto is. If the Cubs are going to have a backup catcher called up, it will be Soto.
