Obviously you picked first.

No too bad, but you have some major injury concerns in your starting rotation. To me your lineup could be made or broken by how Kendrick does. If he stinks you could be looking for MIF help all season long.

Actually, I went second. The first guy picked Howard.

FWIW, we get 4 keepers after each year... that part of why I went so young.

aren't you worried about getting killed in the saves department on a weekly basis?

Only one person is throwing more than one reliever per week, and Putz is just as good a bet as half the guys they're throwing to pick up saves. Besides, there just wasn't any value using a pick on BJ Ryan or somebody when guys like Ben Sheets were on the board.

I would've taken BJ Ryan, personally. Sheets is still an injury risk. He's Brewers version of the Prior/Wood soap as far as I'm concerned. But just like Prior and Wood, if he stays healthy he can help your team big time.

Putz is having an elbow problem right now. Might want to consider picking up another closer.

He's gonna be back for opening day.

Failing at that, these guys left Chris Ray, Brian Fuentes, Joe Borowski, and Todd Jones on the wire.

Pick up Ray, do it quickly.

Why?

Putz had better k/9, bb/9, and hr/9 ratios. Not only that, but PECOTA has Putz pegged for a 3.35 ERA next year, whereas Ray is pegged at 3.99.

I'll take my chances in the first few weeks of the season with Putz, cause the rest of it shouldn't be a contest.

It seems that everyone is thrown off by your league b/c most leagues require 2 RPs and usually teams have 3 or more. So having just 1 seems very odd. But if that's what everyone in the league is doing, I guess it makes sense.

Because Putz has never had that type of success before. To me it smells of Joe Borowski part deux.

yes, dump anthony reyes and pick up chris ray

I'd rather hold Reyes, as Sheets is an injury concern.

Does anybody have any opinions about my offense?

I like it. My concerns would be that you're pretty light on steals, and there's not really much flexibility. Everyone's second position is 1B(Kendrick, Guillen, Sheffield, Dunn, Gordon), and Hafner can't even play there.

Really? Ray had a 4.85 PERA last year with a 6.5 K/9. Not that any of those other guys are really great, but hes one of my least favorite closer options especially considering his division. Fuentes is by far the best of that group.

Although, position flexibility really isnt as important when you only have 2 bench spots. Its really hard to justify using one of those on Clemens for 2.5 months. Especially with your starting pitching. Maybe you can trade him for upton or figgins. Also, with all your power you might want to think about a steals/average guy. Although, I think he'll be good long term, I'm not that high on what Chris Young will be able to do this year (and you'll definitely have 4 better keeper candidates). Given the makeup of your team, Willy Taveras would probably work better for you in CF and is less sought after.

Well, I've made some minor tweaks.

I dropped Myers in order to pick up Chien-Ming Wang. He went on my DL spot, and I used the other available spot to pick up Jered Weaver. I have no idea why either of those guys was made available. Once Wang comes off the DL, I'll drop Reyes. Come the all-star break, this is what my pitching will look like.

SP - Jake Peavy

SP - Felix Hernandez

SP - Ben Sheets

P - Roger Clemens

P - Chien-Ming Wang

RP - J.J. Putz

Bench - Rich Hill

Bench - Jered Weaver

It's a daily roster adjustments league though, so all those pitchers will be getting their turn. I did debate dropping The Rocket for a relief pitcher... but the fact that everybody else is only using 1 RP leaves me in a position that makes it about as easy as possible to carry that dead weight through the beginning of the season.

On the hitting side of things, I haven't made any adjustments. Again, I debated going with a SB guy, but to this point that's the one thing my offense has been doing well. To me, it just makes the most sense to go with power guys, as they are likely to help in R, HR, and RBI. Most speed guys available in my league are only likely to help in SB. Yeah, my team has started off slow... but I'm sticking with my guns with guys like Gordon and Young.
