For example, when asked to recite the alphabet, LaRussa stumbled after "n." He claimed, according to a report, that the letter was followed by "i, z, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, v, z, t, u, v..........x,y,z with a pause."

I know this is probably wrong of me, but BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That listing of the alphabet needs to be placed on a banner to be held up during Cubs-Cardinals games.

I think Tony LaRussa, like many others who get arrested for DUI,is apologizing more for being caught than what he did. Or do others think that this is the first time he's ever driven with a higher than lawful BAC?

I do wonder how all the Cardinal fans who were Tony LaRussa haters prior to last season would react to this had the Cards not won the World Series.

in most states falling asleep at the wheel even if sober is also a crime - and rightly so. sleepy drivers kill people too. so even if you for some reason think 0.093 is not a big deal, he clearly was not in a state to drive.

I wouldn't advocate firing him but I do think this is a serious issue.

Man, I too think the Cardinals pitching will be bad this year, but that's no excuse to drink and drive.

Somehow I think this joke has been made all around the world and all round the internet. 1000's upon millions of times. Infact, it probably has been made in THIS POST a dozen times already.

Jokes are better when they make sense.

I know its wrong, but I can't help it. You know Card's fans wouldn't pull any punches of Piniella got popped. Here are a couple more that came to me.

LushRussa

TUI

I perviously used "Tipsy Tony" in this thread.

Falling asleep at the wheel and drinking are very bad things.

Hasn't he had problems with drinking in the past?

I've got one:

Pretentious Drunk Pr**k

too long?

I think working with the facts at hand will suffice.

TSG also confirms that the breathalyzer wasn't administered until he had been taken into custody.

Breathalyzer tests later administered at the Palm Beach County Jail showed LaRussa's blood alcohol content to be .093, above Florida's .08 legal limit.

Did anyone just hear Gammons on Mike & Mike say Tony was just barely drunk (equal to 3 glasses of wine)? And that most managers probably aren't even up after 10pm? It sounded alot like he was defending Tony or trying to minimize what he did. Being asleep in the middle of an intersection or at a stop light is drunk. If you drink enough to where it puts you asleep, you should not be driving period. Even if he was barely drunk, the law says its .08 and he was over the limit. Good Grief.

Alcohol is not the only explanation for someone falling asleep at the wheel.

Surely there are some other contributing factors here. It's even plausible that this could've happened had he not been drinking.

That's not to defend Tony or try to minimize what he did. It's abundantly clear that he should not have been driving.

Maybe the Courts will force Tony to lecture the public on the evils and destruction caused by drunk drivers like himself in place of his current PETA lectures.

The fact that he didn't hurt someone is pure luck and irrelevant.

It's the difference between a misdemeanor DUI charge and manslaughter. If that's irrelevant to you, I don't know what else to say.

It's a fact that drunk drivers at Tony's level (.93) kill people all the time. Just because an innocent person didn't get in his way and get injured or killed is pure luck.

If that's irrelevant to you, I don't know what else to say.

I'm not saying it's irrelevant. You're reaching.....badly.

All I'm saying is, he did not, in fact, kill anyone. Therefore the punishment will be less. And the punishment *should* be less.

The excuse making is getting ridiculous. It really shows why DUIs are still such a huge problem, because so many are so willing to laugh them off. Pathetic really.

Who's making excuses for what he did?

Nobody that I can tell.

Seems like some are jumping to the conclusion that if you don't want the maximum punishment (more than the maxiumum the law will allow, even) then you are making excuses.

Also---someone mark it down, put it in a database, something: Truffle and I agreed on something.

He was just barely drunk...

Is that like being barely pregnant?

Not at all. There are varying levels of intoxication in relation to the amount of alcohol you injest. There are not varying levels of having a fertilized egg attached to the walls of your cervix.

I'd like to fertilize the egg of that chick in your avatar.

If she has a few more beers, you may have a chance.

Overblown story.

LaRussa is lucky on 2 counts :

1. At least he pulled over . Could have been worse

2. He got his 4 rings back. I would have bet one of them would have ended up on E-Bay.
