Fortunately, K/9 and K/BB really do matter. Not striking out batters will eventually catch up with you. 21K's in 47 innings of work is not good. That's an awful lot of balls in play. I know they have a good defense (though some of those guys are aging signficantly), but, well, that's a lot of balls in play. Their current rate of 1HR / 47 innings pitched is going to be very difficult to sustain during the regular season, as well.

Their staff will probably end up being okay. It's not going to be a spectacular one, though.

If Looper is a servicable starter, LaRussa and Jockety should get contract extensions to infinity. Wainwright has a lot of upside, but thats a lot to expect from a guy pitching out of the pen last year. Losing Wainwright hurts their pen so they robbed peter to pay paul a little here too.

well, it IS the cardinals.

I'm starting to think LaRussa and Duncan could take a random bum sleeping on the street and at bare minimum, turn them into a decent middle reliever.

God do I hate the Cardinals

(BTW: a coworker in the St. Louis branch of my company says the Cardinals are spending a couple of million dollars to further upgrade Busch stadium. More escalators, even larger scoreboard, more bathrooms, larger pressbox and more decorations. Plus they'll have signs plastered all over saying "World Series Champs") *sigh*

I can confirm this...those damn signs are going up as we speak...

Can you confirm whether or not these signs are in the urinals?

They should be.

We won't know anything about these pitchers until they are facing ML hitters (1-8) over the course of several regular season games.

Seriously? Wow. I had no idea.

So wait, you're telling me a small sample size in exhibition games isn't the best thing to gauge potential on?

Got to love the sarcasm...

That's about 4 hr per starter for the season

Yeah, I don't think they'll keep that up

Well, considering our Pythagorean record calls for around 125 wins I'm guessing a lot of things don't keep up.

La Russa is to pitchers as Mike Shannahan is to running backs

and

St. Louis is to pitchers as Denver is to running backs

It must be the alcohol (coors, busch)

Replace "La Russa" with "Dave Duncan."

Carlos had a 9.64 era after opening day last year.

No, no, no...He is right. Carpenter is definitely going to suck this bad for the rest of the season.

If you say so....
