Let's face it, an OF of Soriano, Murton and Jones gives us a better chance of winning than Soriano, Pie, Murton does.

Really?

PECOTA projects Pie to be worth 2 wins more than Jones this year.

Does Pecota add a platoon partner for Jones? Probably not..

Who's his platoon partner for the Cubs?

Ken Rosenthal thinks the Cubs will platoon Jones with either DeRosa or Theriot. Lou loves to play percentages so I could see it happening.

.... Jones, a left-handed hitter with a career .275 on-base percentage against left-handed pitching, likely will be reduced to a platoon player in right.

The Cubs can use either second baseman Mark DeRosa or utility infielder Ryan Theriot as their right-handed-hitting right fielder; both crushed left-handed pitching last season. The team is trying to acquire another middle infielder who would give Piniella the option of playing DeRosa and Theriot at the same time.

PECOTA projections are atrocious when it comes to rookies.

Example please?

It pegged Ryan Howard to hit almost 60 HR last year, and I thought it was crazy, but he did it.

That's an exception, not the norm. I'm not going to look it up and provide any examples (seems you already did if you know it projected Howard to hit 60. If you look at all of the rookies, you'll find alot of numbers like that. Pecota expects the average rookie to perform in his first year in the majors like he would if he did another year in the minors.

Juan Cruz now in for the DBacks.

I still hope he puts it together.

I think it's unlikely for a guy with as shaky of a mind as his to put it together for any extended period of time.

I hope Rosenthal isn't just speculating about the possibility.

DeRosa and Theriot.

Has Lou stated that he'll platoon Jacque? I haven't seen anything to that effect.

If Derosa and Jones were platooning in RF, that would be great, but Derosa is going to be the fulltime 2B this year, isn't he? And if Jacque needs a platoon partner, so does Mark.

Supposedly (Rosenthal) we're looking for another backup MIF so the Cubs can play Izzy, Theriot (2B/RF), and DeRosa (RF/2B) in the same lineup.

I haven't heard Lou say anything about a platoon in RF.

So lets recap: 1. Murton is looking like he might get 500 plus ab. 2. The Riot!!! made the team, and might play quite a bit 3. Soriano doesn't look like he is in a Benny Hill sketch in CF 4. Gooz is pitching well enough for Sweet Loy to remember his name.

good spring so far.

Good to see the Cubs are trying to get another IF. The Cubs have the OF covered with Floyd, Ward and Theriot all able to play there. The non-1B IF is weak with just Theriot and Cedeno as the only options.

Not bad

Agreed. I kind of want him to get the #5 slot at the beginning just so he can hopefully do well for enough games where the Cubs can drum up some real interest and net a sweet return when they trade him.
