Derrek Lee, hitting .520 this spring, has reached base safely in all eight games played … his average ranks fourth in the National League.

Buck Coats is tied for 10th in the NL with a .440 batting average … he’s reached safely in six straight games.

Rocky Cherry leads the NL with three saves … Carlos Zambrano is tied with Milwaukee’s Carlos Villanueva for the NL lead in strikeouts with 12.

The Cubs are hitting .350 (119-for-340) over their last eight games.

The Cubs’ .319 spring batting average is third among NL clubs … Milwaukee is first with a .335 batting average and Arizona is second with a .321 mark.

The Cubs had an 11-game home run streak snapped yesterday in Scottsdale … it was the first time the Cubs failed to homer in a game since the spring opener, March 1 vs. San Francisco.

Upcoming Probable Starters

Wednesday: Off Day

Thursday vs. Seattle: RHP Cha Seung Baek (0-1) vs. LHP Ted Lilly (0-0)

so does coats make the 25 man along with cherry? if so, does what do they do with pagan?

I still think it's a long shot for either Coats or Cherry to make the team.

I think Cherry makes it.

I think at least two pitchers have to be traded before Cherry makes it. That said, I think he makes it. I think Eyre and Miller (and possibly Novoa, if anyone wants him) will be gone by opening day.

I like Arizona's chances in this game.

I think Cherry makes it as well. I predict Guzman wins the fifth spot so Miller is as good as gone... The Cubs don't have to trade Novoa, doesn't he still have options?

MG, originally from aurora?

we've lived here since 1996. i am originally from the south side of chicago.

Gotcha. Grew up there and went to West High. Had to ask.

no problem. we love living in aurora. the only drawback is being so far from wrigley field.

There will be no games available, for us to watch or hear, until Friday.

A radio broadcast of Thursday's game will be available through Gameday Audio. XM won't be carrying it since it's a Cubs home game but WGN radio isn't broadcasting it.

Hmm, that's funny. Last time I checked there are no broadcasts until Friday. :?

They don't HAVE too, maybe I'm just being wishful that they will...

Eh, looks like Seattle changed the broadcast schedule to pick up the other s/s game they're playing, so no broadcast after all.

Some site called the Daily Herald has a little story up now that says Soriano apparently nailed down the CF job. That pretty much means Pie, today's starter, wil go to Iowa to begin the season. Also a tidbit on Prior. I'd post a link, but I'm not too computer savvy. I write 'em and send 'em into the paper. :D

I've heard that rag has a pretty good beat writer for the Cubs...I'll have to check it out. :D

Bruce do have a feel for the mental status of Prior? He started out throwing 84/85. In his next start he was 88/89 with the fastball but he looked like he was overthrowing and not hitting his spots. His breaking stuff was consistently away and he seemed tentative to lefties as a result. He looks like he's fallen apart mentally to me.

By the way, great job as the beat writer for the Daily Herald.
