I could have sworn he already retired. Guess I was wrong.

I was in the same boat. I thought he made the announcement right after the end of the season. Maybe that was just a "leaning" statement to a reporter, and he's finally made it official?

I'll never understand how Dusty could justify giving Burnitz 155 starts in 2005. He just had to have that .757 OPS in the lineup every stinkin day.

He had a home run at my first Cubs game and scored the winning run.

Have a happy retirement, Burny!

Nobody you say looks like Popeye looks even remotely like Popeye in any form.

I'll never understand how Hendry could justify going into 2005 with the OF he had, which pretty much guaranteed Burnitz would get a ton of playing time.

He was, uh, hamstrung by the sosa situation. Which is why we had to have Burnitz instead of Beltran.

Or something like that.

It's a good thing he didn't do anything silly like re-sign Moises.

Now that I'll enthusiastically agree with (though I know you're being sarcastic).

That would have been a good move. I missed Moises.

Yeah but we had this dude named Matt Murton who could have used some more starts but Dusty just had to play Burnie damn near every day. It was like Burnie was some indispensable superstar and not a washed up geezer who wasn't going to be on the team the next season. No way did he need or deserve to get 155 starts.

That was much more about the worthless bums he kept trotting out in LF than Burnitz.

It is unfortunate that ownership wouldn't step up(like they did this offseason) and front the cash needed for Beltran.

Wasn't this the year where we were all pleading for DuBois?
