Barring injuries, I think this is the most likely 25-man roster at the moment...

Zambrano

Lilly

Marquis

Hill

Miller

Dempster

Howry

Eyre

Wood

Ohman

Cotts

Cherry

Soriano

Murton

Lee

Ramirez

Jones

Barrett

DeRosa

Izturis

Blanco

Ward

Theriot

Cedeno

Floyd

Guzman could replace either Miller or Cherry if the Cubs think he won't be wasted in the bullpen. But that might be it. What's your predicted final 25?

I think a trade could bring that last middle infielder. The Cubs also will be watching the waiver wire closely.

I wouldn't mind a trade at all. So long as its not another Freddie Bynum.

I could see a deal with the Rockies for one of Carroll, Barmes, or Matsui.

Yeah, I could see that, too. Though Tulowitzki would be better. I think the Rockies will look to move Barmes or Carroll once Tulo is confirmed for the starting SS gig.

I could also see us waiting out Todd Walker in San Diego and grabbing him if he's released.

I cannot see Jim Hendry making any effort to bring back Todd Walker.

Walker also hits wrong handed for the extra infielder the Cubs are looking for. Walker probably isn't getting cut anyway.

There will be some spring releases or trades to fill that spot.

Cubs.com[/url]"] "Anybody can play at the big-league level, but can you play at the big-league [level] to win? That's really what you look for. At this point, we're not really in a developmental stage. We're looking for another middle infielder to help our situation out here."

This is almost exactly like something Dusty said.

Yeah, I seem to remember that, too.

Of course, any manager of a team that has a shot of getting into the post season is saying things like this, especially during spring training. I guess from Lou's perspective, its the nice way of saying, I'm not managing the Devil Rays anymore.

I agree with Lou! I watched too many young guys go through growing pains, while trying to develop, on the ML team last year. This is not AAA. The young guys who earn their way onto the roster should be polished enough to handle the situational demands of performing in the Major Leagues.

As Lou mentioned, Ronny started out very well in 2006 only to have a poor second half. It's obvious that teams made adjustments on him and he was unable to respond. Add to that the pressure of trying to maintain a starting job and it was a recipe for a bad season. Ronny's game is not going to advance on the bench. He needs to be more consistent defensively (especially with making routine plays) as well as learn plate discipline and pitch selection... Therefore, he would be better served by going back to Iowa to work on his game.

BTW, I know one could argue that the previous regime confused his approach at the plate but, the truth is, that wouldn't have happened if he already had a firm understanding of the strike zone.

A lot of players should have been in AA.
