Chicago Cubs

Signed RHP Hector Almonte

Signed OF Chris Amador

Signed OF Josh Kroeger

Josh used to be a decent prospect for Arizona, so the Cubs must have wanted someone for the outfield in Iowa. The others?

Almonte is a journeymen reliever (31 yo. I believe) pitched in the Indy Leagues last year.

Amador is a 2B/CF, good speed, needs to improve his approach at the plate. Probably a poor man's version of Bynum.

I seem to recall that Josh Kroeger's name popped up a year or so ago as a guy the Cubs might try to get in exchange for Corey Patterson.

Apparently he hasn't been too impressive since then, if he got released by Arizona.

If my memory serves me correctly, Josh spent some time with the Mets after he was released by Arizona. And yes, my impression of Josh is that he is a AAAA player.

It seems like most of these moves should be of interest to Iowa fans only.

Wow...I thought Bynum was a poor man's version of Bynum...

Did Kroeger have an injury somewhere? He's got a really unusual minor league career.

2003, Age 21: .341/.409/.528/.937 in ~350 PA's at A+, .274.315/.380/.695 in ~225 PA's at AA

2004, Age 22: .331/.393/.588/.981 in ~275 PA's at AA, .332/.376/.587/.963 in ~225 PA's at AAA, September callup

2005, Age 23: .261/.316/.422/.738 in ~500 PA's at AAA

2006, Age 24: .231/.270/.370/.640 in ~475 PA's at AAA

He went from hitting everything in sight to falling off the map.

There's such a thing worse than Bynum himself?

You have a point. How could I forget the Gremlin? Must be repressed memories...
