Cardinals reliever Josh Kinney will have surgery on a ligament in his right elbow and is likely out for the season.

The Cardinals are expected to make an announcement on Kinney following today's spring training game.

Earlier this week Kinney described a "tingling sensation" in his right arm after a second consecutive rocky outing this spring.

Kinney, who had more than 100 total innings in relief last season, was projected as a potential setup man for the Cards this season.

Well crap, he was our best set up option.

31 1/3 ip, 2.16 era, 28k, 12 bb in regular and post season appearances.

This could hurt as he was really good last year. But hopefully if Izzy is back healthy and with the signing of Springer they will still have a good bullpen.

He was the heir to the Mike Lincoln, Al Reyes, Kiko Calero throne of guys who come out of absolutely nowhere to be good for a season and then leave. Calero is the only one who sustained it.

hopefully this is due to some type of highly contagious disease

hopefully not for me-I wish no one would get hurt. I know it happens, but it's never good when it does.

100 IP of relief last year??

71 in Memphis, 31 in Stl.

that just sounds like alot for a reliever. Torres lead the NL with 93 IP. i wonder if use/overuse was a factor?
