Thought I would get some discussion going in the time between the draft and the start of the season. I decided to check up on the news that involved players on my team for the year.

Johjima: I see my #1 pick took a Peavy fastball to the side with no major damage.

Kei Igawa: Hasn't pitched away from intrasquad but I'm enjoying what I'm reading so far.

How are your players doing?

The news on my team has all been pretty good. I have a lot of potential sleepers on offense that are all doing well so far. I'm only aware of Matt Cain giving up any runs from my staff. Halladay, Santana, Bonderman and Wainwright all buzzed right through in their first starts. Bonderman has a new weapon in his arsenal, so things are looking good.

Atlanta is raving about Scott Thorman.

Looks like Josh Johson has nerve damage and may miss most, if not all, of the season :x

Votto, McCutcheon, Lind, and Maybin are hitting well abeit in the latter innings of games. It would be nice to have a prospect breakthrough early.

I was wondering if I shouldn't have traded Thorman, although to get Wang, I think it was a good deal.

Or for me to trade him to you for who I forget, so that you could trade him for Wang, or.................................

Carpenter better step it up. nobody is guaranteed a rotation spot.

I believe Igawa throws tomorrow. Considering where I got him in the draft (39th?) I'm excited about the possibilities.

Not all good news for the Dishmans with Furcal missing a pair of games with shoulder irritation. However, there is some good news to report:

Jermaine Dye:

News: White Sox OF Jermaine Dye had a three-run homer in the fourth inning of Sunday's game against the Cubs. On Saturday he hit first homer of the spring -- a solo shot off Diamondbacks pitcher D.J. Carrasco. Dye is now 3-for-9 with two homers, four RBI, two runs and one walk through four spring games.

Rich Harden:

News: A's SP Esteban Loaiza opened up Sunday's spring game against the Padres by pitching two scoreless innings, but his performance was overshadowed by that of Rich Harden's. He went on to allow just one hit in two innings of work, but more impressively struck out five batters.

hill and soriano both looked pretty good yesterday. if hill can pitch anything like he did last fall, my rotation looks pretty good. not so excited about this, however...

Brett Myers, the 26-year-old right-hander with ace potential, told the Philadelphia Inquirer he informed general manager Pat Gillick in the offseason that he's willing to become a closer if the rotation remains crowded. At this point, though, the scenario hasn't been seriously discussed. "I like starting because I have a routine," Myers said. "But closing gives me a chance to get in the game every day. I like that, too. I think I could do it. I think my arm bounces back pretty well. But, on the other hand, I'm used to starting."

News: Japanese left-hander Kei Igawa allowed two runs, two hits, three walks Monday. He struck out three and faced eight batters, getting three outs before leaving in the second. "The only thing I saw was overstriding," Yankees catcher Jorge Posada said. "When you strike the guys out, you obviously made some good pitches. When you walk the guys, everything is up in the zone." Igawa loaded the bases on two walks and a single, with no outs in the first. "He looked like he rushed himself a little bit," New York manager Joe Torre said. "He just didn't seem to finish off pitches. The first time out, maybe getting a little over anxious."

I've been following the reports on Igawa and the recurring theme is how fast he works.

I make it a point not to look much at what my guys do in the spring unless it's injury related or someone trying to win a job. Since I rarely draft guys who have to "win a job" with the exception of prospecting for closers, I don't have to worry about that too much either.

In other words, all of your guys are really sucking this spring. :D Thanks for the update, Vance!

Take it for what it's worth. Actually, with six fantasy teams going this year, I can hardly keep up with who I have on each team.

Just trade me your best players/prospects and call it a year.

Speaking of IR threads, I drafted this team in a 16 team H2H league. How funny is this roster. By the way, there is only 1 DL spot.

SP- Bonderman

SP- Ben Sheets

SP- AJ Burnett

SP- Randy Johnson

SP- Tim Hudson

Bench- Mark Prior

Bench- Angel Guzman

RP- Bob Wickman

RP- Ryan Dempster

C- Pudge

1b- Derrek Lee

2b- Howie Kendrick

3b- Miguel Cabrera

SS- Stephen Drew

OF- JD Drew

OF- Milton Bradley

OF- Andre Ethier

U- Todd Helton

Bench- Jose Guillen

Bench- Dustin Pedroia

Healthy, it's a pretty good team. Not healthy, not so much.

Rich Harden finished with four strikeouts in four innings against the Giants Friday and retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced, completing a spring in which he compiled a 1.53 ERA. The Oakland right-hander struck out 20 over his final 12 2/3 innings.

Come on Tim, offer the farm.
