You gotta love the timing of this story with the ticket sales.

But the description of Prior's stuff at thecubreporter.com wasn't a Muskat story.

A Muskat story would create more skepticism than excitement.

A Muskat story would create more skepticism than excitement.

Which would not help ticket sales.

I really believe he'll have a Comeback Player of the Year type of season, but like many other fans, I need to see him stay healthy. I think he will, but we've been stung before.

Prior's gonna havta beat DLee for CPOY.

Can you think of a race you'd enjoy more?

I'm really shocked at how much optimism there is regarding Prior. I mean how is this year really different than any other year? They've said before every ST for the past 3 years he'll be ready to start the season and he hasn't been. There are always stories about "Prior throws off the mound", "Prior throws simulated game" and such. Even if he does come back, odds are good we'll get 2006 Prior or 2004 Prior instead of 2003 Prior.

He's actually throwing on the mound this year (in the first week of spring training, no less), and independent bloggers have said his stuff looks great.

The difference is usually the "throws off mound" are in the first week in April/May and the "throws simulated game" is in May/June. For the past 3 seasons he has started out WAY later than his compatriots.

This is the first year since 2003 that he's been on or ahead of schedule going into spring training. He went on a specialized workout regimen for his shoulder over the offseason. Reports from camp are that he's not just throwing, but throwing extremely well. Better than he has in years. BTW, 2005 Prior was a pretty good pitcher himself. I don't see the anomaly that was 2006 Prior returning.

These are not the same stories we hear ever year, not even close. Other years they've said that he'd be ready to start the season but there hasn't been any reason to believe that.

This year there's no reason to believe he wouldn't be ready.

Calvin and Hobbes?

Yes. Awesome.

Definitely is.

Thirded (or fourthed, or fifthed; I can't tell).

This is great news. How nice it would to have the 2003 Mark Prior with Carlos Zambrano. That would solidify the starting pitching, and it would be nice to see something like:

Zambrano

Prior

Hill

That's one hell of a 1-3 starting pitchers, provided that Hill repeats his performance from 2005.

Posted
Yeah, it's all good that Prior is throwing well off the mound, but when is he going to begin his towel drills? Doesn't he have to complete those drills before he can pitch in a ST game?

I'm not sure, but I think this is the first use of the hilarious towel drill joke in this thread. Might be a record or something.

I'd rather see Hill repeat his performance from 2006.

I'm guessing the "hilarious" part of your post was in sarcasm?

Prior sounds like he's healthy and confident that he will return to form:

"I absolutely believe I'll be in the starting rotation this year," Prior said. "I don't care where I am in the rotation -- it doesn't matter after the first week. But I plan on being in the rotation on Opening Day."

Your guess is right.
