From Ben Maller:

Less than a week before they take him to arbitration, the Marlins delivered an early salvo at their most productive player, All-Star third baseman Miguel Cabrera. In front of hundreds of fans and season-ticket holders during the weekend, Marlins President David Samson and General Manager Larry Beinfest made a point to voice their disappointment that Cabrera blew off the team's pre-season promotional events. "(Owner) Jeffrey (Loria) and the rest of us are extremely disappointed that he's not here with every one of his teammates. All the players are here except Miguel,'' Samson said Saturday at FanFest at Dolphin Stadium.

Samson made similar remarks from the podium Friday night at a $200-a-plate awards dinner. Beinfest publicly noted Cabrera's absence from the podium at a Town Hall meeting on Saturday. A source who has spoken with the Cabrera camp said part of the reason he didn't show up is that he is not happy that the team is taking him to arbitration on Friday over a $700,000 difference. Cabrera, who made $472,000 last year, wants $7.4 million. The team has offered him $6.7 million. "If he wins, he'll be a very rich man and if he loses he'll be a very rich man. And we'll all fly back to start spring training,'' Samson said.

Excellent....yes.....anger....resentment.....use the dark side.....

the marlins have a "fan fest"? seriously?

They hold it in a phone booth.

I just spit 'Nilla Wafers all over my keyboard. Post of the day.

perhaps he had, you know, a legitimate excuse for not attending?

Either way, it reminds me of the way they treated Giardi before forcing him out...

So, Cabrera does his best imitation of a Marlin fan, which is to not attend Marlins baseball games, and someone is upset with him?

Cool.

I'd love Miguel on the Cubs. He'd be one of my favorite players right off the bat.

Who knew, the guy with Soriano and Zambrano in his sig would also like the best player on the team.

Marshall for Cabrera. DO IT!!

Well:

Willis for Clement and 6 fingers. Big winner: Marlins

Lee for Choi. Big winner: Cubs

Renting Pierre for Nolasco, Mitre, Pinto. Winner: Marlins

Time to even up the score?

Yeah, I just recently changed my sig. It was the Bears (Super Bowl time). And prior to that it was Felix Pie.

I heard on XM that Cabrera is only asking for 7 Million. I didn't realize the Marlins were so cheap!!!

I don't know what a club would have to give up to get Cabrera, but he's a great player for sure.

7 million is about half of what the entire payroll of the team was last year if I'm not mistaken.

If you read the article, I believe it says they are only like $400K apart, but Cabrera is a little ticked it's an issue for the Marlins.

When you get no money from consessions and parking, have to pay rent in your own ballpark, and only get about 8k fans per game every dollar is important.

The Marlins need to move more than any other organization in baseball. Loria is an idiot but he has good people running the team.

I hear you, that's another player's salary for the year with their payroll. Small payroll or not, they'd look pretty foolish to loose that kind of talent over such a small amount. If it were Pierre, the Marlins would be justified.

Why is Cabrera the victim here?

He's acting like what he is...an overgrown baby.

For his production and considering the current market 7 million is a deal!!!

He isn't a free agent, he should not make free agent money.

I don't think 7 million is free agency money, do you?

For him, certainly not.

But your point seemed to be something like "7.4 or 6.8, who cares, either way it is a steal"

And that's what Cabrera is saying as well.
