If you read the article, I believe it says they are only like $400K apart, but Cabrera is a little ticked it's an issue for the Marlins.

When you get no money from consessions and parking, have to pay rent in your own ballpark, and only get about 8k fans per game every dollar is important.

The Marlins need to move more than any other organization in baseball. Loria is an idiot but he has good people running the team.

I hear you, that's another player's salary for the year with their payroll. Small payroll or not, they'd look pretty foolish to loose that kind of talent over such a small amount. If it were Pierre, the Marlins would be justified.

For his production and considering the current market 7 million is a deal!!!

He isn't a free agent, he should not make free agent money.

I don't think 7 million is free agency money, do you?

For him, certainly not.

But your point seemed to be something like "7.4 or 6.8, who cares, either way it is a steal"

Is that my point, or is it that he should get market value even though he's not a free agent?

My point is that 7 million for Cabrera's production is cheap in this day in age. If he were a free agent he'd get significantly more. I don't think it's too lofty of a number for him to request. As far as 7.4 or 6.8 who cares, I never said anything like that. I simply stated that at 7 million it's more then fair market price.

Thats my point, 7 may be more than fair market price, but he is not in an open market.

Do you think he'd accept 7 million on the open market? No!

7 million is way below market value for his production. It's not like he's asking for 15.5 million like Z is.

If this goes to arbitration, Cabrera has a very good chance of winning.

I may be wrong on this, but I believe that for this year, Cabrera can't even argue that 7 million is below market value-he can only compare his salary to other arbitration players, and not free agent players-next year he'll be able to compare his production and salary against all players like Z gets to do this year being only 1 year from free agency.

Marshall for Cabrera. DO IT!!

Well:

Willis for Clement and 6 fingers. Big winner: Marlins

Lee for Choi. Big winner: Cubs

Renting Pierre for Nolasco, Mitre, Pinto. Winner: Marlins

Time to even up the score?

Cubs, NYY and Marlins go into a 3-way deal...

Marlins trade Miquel Cabrera & Willis

Cubs trade Zambrano, Moore, Pawelik, Wuertz, E Patterson

NYY trade ARod, Hughes, Milkey Cabrera,

NYY receive Miquel Cabrera, Zambrano,

Marlins receive Hughes (best prospect NYY), Pawelik (#1 draft choice #10 Chicago), Moore (3B) prospect, Wuertz, Milkey Cabrera and E Patterson

Cubs receive AROD and Willis (Cub essentially trade Zambrano for another year of Willis)

Marlins go cheap cheap and get 6 players, 5 who can play now or in a year.

I couldn't possibly hate that deal more.

Willis? No thanks. NY gets Zambrano AND Miguel? Double no thanks.

Who cares about NYY's

Zambrano's arm is going to falter....if not he is superman or Clemens

Willis is a good replacement and would be #2.

The thing is Cubs get AROD and still could deal for Ichiro with Jones, Gallagher and throw in.

Then you have a WS roster

And the Cubs play the Yanks in the WS and ARod hits the series winning homer off of Z!

I'm not sure Florida is getting enough in that deal but it definately has potential.

If any deal goes down, Cabrera better end up on the Cubs.

Exactly.

I don't want Willis for the same reasons I'm apprehensive about giving Z so much money and so many years. Both seem like extended DL stints waiting to happen.

Cabrera playing the OF with Jones, Soriano and Murton.....

allowing a trade with Jones or Murton.....with Pie in the background....What makes

AROD better is he is a SS and Cabrera is a bad 3B and good OF and great hitter....

If Miguel can somehow end up on these team, any one of our current OFers not named Soriano is now expendable. I like Murton, but he's nowhere near Cabrera. Jones would be the obvious one to go...so who plays RF? Pie? Soriano? Whatever...if you can get Cabrera, you make room for Cabrera. As much as I love ARod as a player, Cabrera is younger and you'll get more out of him because of it.

"If he wins, he'll be a very rich man and if he loses he'll be a very rich man. And we'll all fly back to start spring training,'' Samson said.

 X 100

I guess I don't see anything wrong with his statement. It's true.

I guess the arbitrator thought he was worth it too. Open market, or not.
