Juan Pierre's OPS by month:

.622, .557, .733, .876, .770, .735

I can't speak directly for Sweet Lou, but the Cubs organization sure doesn't seem to take up issue with speedy left-handed CF's taking their time to start producing.

Ouch... I didn't realize how bad Juan actually was last year. I knew he was pretty bad, but ewww. Well, I can see why some might think Pie is the best option for CF at this time given both offensive and defensive considerations. I just don't want to see Pie jerked around like Patterson was. I'd rather see him get another year of consistent at bats with AAA before asking him to hold down a big league job. Whether we like it or not, most managers hold rookies to a higher standard when it comes to playing time and I'd rather see Pie playing at Iowa than not at all.

Sounds like Pie might be penciled in at this point. Ideally, I'd still like to see them hold on to Jacque as insurance for all three OF spots, but I'd be shocked if they did. Forget Floyd in that case. Maybe try to get Jones some time in CF and 1B in spring training?

Again, not likely.

Is it possible that Hendry would trade Jones for just about anything just to put Pie in CF? If you look at the OF slots it has:

Soriano

Murton

Jones

Ward

Pagan

I don't see any room for Pie until Jones is moved. I really think they like Pagan so he is going to be the 5th OF IMO.

PECOTA sees a .280/.342/.480 line from Pie with plus defense next season.

Given the other current options out there, I don't see how you can say this is a bad decision from the "win today" view.

I don't believe it's reasonable to believe that a player will improve upon his past season minor league numbers in his first season of professional baseball.

Pie's OPS by month: .862, .676, .630, .771, .930, 1.389

Well, if he goes .676 .630 in 2 consecutive months and the Cubs are losing ground, will Lou "let him play through it"? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for giving young guys their shot, but I don't think the timing is right this year.

are you talking about pie? if so, the guy is only 21 and was in aaa last year. how is that in any way "taking his time to start producing"?

i would think that pagan will be ahead of ward when it comes to the OF. ward will primarialy be a pinch hitter and sub for lee at 1b and maybe play some lf.

Read what I was quoting. I was responding to a hypothetical situation, not the real one.

I agree. I was just listing the OF's.

On ESPN 1000 they mentioned Bruce Levine said the cubs were after a CF but I did not catch the name, Anybody hear who it was we were after?

No, but I can guess it was Erstad or Finley.
