I don't know, but it's pretty lame that we're discussing a newly minted $136M player and we have to ignore his 2004 and 2005 numbers to make him look good.

It's also pretty lame that you're arguing that he was only motivated in 2006 because it was his free agent year, when he's had two other seasons just about as good.

Okay, maybe it wasn't a motivational problem. Maybe he's just a player who's subject to the occasional 2-year slump. Either way I wouldn't give him $136M.

I don't think anyone here would either, at least not until other options were explored and exhausted.

I don't think Soriano is as good -- or at least not as patient -- as he was last year, but he's a pretty solid hitter. I think he strugged in Texas because he was mishandled by the organization. It could be argued that LF was less strenuous on his body too, though I don't have anything to back that claim up.

Imagine for a moment

the cubs dont sign Soriano and he goes on to have great all star caliber years with another team

The same people saying we spent too much would be saying Hendry is a idiot because he didnt do what was needed to get him, (Carlos Beltran)

If Hendry didnt do anything like the 2005/06 off season, people would cry about the players we couldve gotten and didnt.

its a no win situation for some of you, its almost like you want the cubs to lose because it gives you something to bitch about.

Kinda like how Carlos Beltran had a 1 year slump in 2005 after signing his contract

Why did he have trouble in texas, could it be the 100 degree heat everyday? traveling to the west coast for division games. who knows, those 2 years are annomlies to what he has done everywhere else

How is Soriano's english?

I've never heard him speak.

Also, I was reviewing his stats page and thought it was really strange how few triples Alfonso hits for such a "speed/power" guy.

The man loves to steal 3rd base.

That's not true, at least in my case. I'd rather the Cubs didn't pursure Soriano and instead looked to upgrade CF, SS, and 2nd base.

I'm glad they've improved (at least on paper) but they still have the same three holes they had at the begining of the off-season.

I am hoping they can get something of value for JJ and I have hope for the long term future with Wilken drafting and all the picks they have.

However, I don't have much hope for this season.

He might be like Sosa, but atleast he didn't hit his wife in the head with a wine bottle like slammin sammy

You got the proof for that one?

actually, he was accused of beating his wife with a bat when she refused to grant him a divorce, but the charges were later dismissed.

Was that before he assassinated Franz Ferdinand or before he burned down that orphanage?

I always thought it was a bottle of rum.

I heard he had a knife!

I heard it was a bazooka and a bottle of cherry schnaps!!

You're both wrong - it was a slingshot and a bottle of MadDog 20/20.

And he missed with both by a mile.

It was never Sosa, people. It was the damn voodoo 30/30 necklace which started everything.

Keep those custom jewelers away from Soriano. They're the devil.
