"The story of the game is Devin Hester," Smith said. "It's time we start looking at him as an offensive player.

Hrm....

Does he view him as a player who can play with the offense, or just as a scoring threat on special teams, therefore, like an offensive player. I'd think that would be a nice wrinkle to throw at the opposition with the playoffs coming.

I heard a clip of Lovie and he said that was what he meant. No plans for Hester on offense for the time being.

I'll trade places. Not going to be able to catch the Packers game unless I go to BWW :x

That's unfortunate. But not surprising. If they were going to make that kind of change, I bet they'd do it during the offseason.

That's unfortunate. But not surprising. If they were going to make that kind of change, I bet they'd do it during the offseason.

I could still see them try and throw him in for a play or two before all is said and done this season.

I hate HATE HATE HATE how the Saints leapfrogged us.

That is just incredibly frustrating. Nothing we could have done on Monday Night could have stopped that, clearly.

We HAVE to win a playoff game this year. I wont deal with us at least not going to the NFC Championship with the NFC this weak.

CNNSi has them at 2 behind the chargers and the saints at 5

New Orleans is the flavor of the week at ESPN, they change teams every year, its nice to see they got off their knees in front of Tony Romo though

I could have sworn there was a clip from Lovie where he said it might be time to start looking at offensive possibilities for Hester. The key words being "start looking."

I have no way to prove this though.

It's in the first post of this quote. He was talking about thinking about what Hester has done as being like an offensive player.

This is the quote we're talking about. He said "Start looking at him as an offensive player" in terms of the ROY hunt. He wanted his name in the running for offensive rookie of the year.

They change every week! They've gone from NO to CHI to DAL to SD to DAL (again) to NO (again). What is with these guys?

I like what Tuna said. "Let's put away the annointing oil for a little while."

Thank you Tuna! Play the games, see who really comes out on top instead of picking favorites all the time and then biasing your coverage in favor of your picks! A novel idea.

No,no,no. I thought I heard Lovie elaborating on it, saying it might be time to start looking at actually working Hester into the offense on a couple plays.

"I think it is about time we start looking at him as an offensive player," he said. "We needed the big plays and he stepped up and came through.

"It seems like we should start thinking about other ways to get him the football. He is making a big impact right now."

Posted this in the "Other Games" thread, but since power rankings were being discussed here, this is the ranking I agree with the most (and it's objective!):

DVOA

The weighted rankings factor more recent games in more heavily, so the Saints get a boost from that, but statistically they are the NFC's version of the Colts. Truly, none of the NFC contenders (NO, DAL, NYG, SEA) are good defensively, which bodes well for Rex. Actually, the teams I'd be most concerned about in the playoffs would be Philly or Carolina.

DVOA is the keyness. I think it has some problems but is a much better system than any of this other stuff. If you look, Benson has a much higher DVOA than Jones as well.

[joke]

Don't get Devin Hester anything for Christmas this year.

He'll just return it.

[/joke]

I actually laughed.

It's sure as hell a lot better (and more FAIR) than Dr. Z's voodoo "power rankings."

Yeah----that's the quote I was thinking of.

That sounds like Lovie might be mulling over a few plays on offense.

Well Lovie did say today that right now they're happy with Hester on returns and CB when needed. But I wonder if they're saving something like him on offense as a "playoff surprise"...

It might be a different story if Vash wasn't hurt.

Jon, the Devin Hester highlight reel is awesome (so far :D).

I don't dislike the "Windy City Flyer" nickname, but I think Primetime would be perfect. He's got the friendship with Deon and he's been doing his dances, plus 4 out of his 6 TDs have been on Sunday or Monday Night.
