I'd rather roll the dice with Tim than go with Gil or Ted.

I wonder what the cost would be? Would the Braves have any interest in Jones or Dempster?

I'd give them Hill and J. Jones and their pick of an AA pitcher for Hudson and Andruw Jones at call it an offseason.

The minor league would need some serious restocking (but let's be honest, it already does).

I'm not sure I'd trade Hill. Hudson is likely as big a question mark as is Hill. Hill is the only one of our young pitchers that we can pencil into the 2007 rotation.

Marshall, Mateo, Guzman, Ryu, Marmol....anyone of those they can have...and likely two of them.

So the rotation would be Zambrano, Hudson, Miller, Marshall and Prior?

We aren't accomplishing anything by giving up Hill for Hudson. In all honesty, I'd rather have Hill anyways.

Yikes. That's a good point. Hill stays.

Really, I wasn't thinking about who else would be in the rotation. But if I compare any of the minor leaguers to Meche or Lilly I don't think there is that much of a difference.

I think I'd have Guzman in the rotation somewhere

My idea probably isn't a good one, however I'd rather have A. Jones, Hudson, and Guzman than JJ, Meche and Lilly

A trade for A. Jones and Hudson would be just what the Cubs need. Starting with JJones, a ton of young pitching, and whatever else they might need in a package that would solve both our pitching and CF problems. The money would be $13.5 million for A. Jones (minus the 4-5 million for JJones) and $6/13/13/12 (1 million mutual option) million. The total cost for Hudson (assuming the Cubs refuse the 4th year option) would be $33 million over 3 years. A. Jones would be $9.5 million for one year and then Pie takes over in 2008. This sounds quite a bit better than throwing $80 million over 4 years to Meche and Lilly plus a few million to Lofton.

Soriano

Murton

Lee

Ramirez

A. Jones

Barrett

Derosa

Izturis

Zambrano

Hudson

Hill

Cotts/Miller/Prior

Marshall/Cotts/Miller/Prior

There's no point in throwing tons of money at lilly if you can get Hudson at a fair deal. Then it equates to throwing lots of money at a guy who's been good (hudson) vs. throwing money at a guy who's never been any good.

I'd take my chances w/ udson.

Or, they could try to do a Hudson/Giles package and give the CF job to Soriano. DeRosa could play RF to start the season and then slowly groom Pie into the spot in a platoon if or when he's ready.
