But our goal isn't to shut people up. :p

I'd be more than happy with another Jets game from Rex. That would show me he can control the ball and not turn it over, and mean that it would be pointless to put in Griese.

The only way I see Griese being put in is if Rex throws terribly and allows 2 INT before half.

I think that is true. A disastrous 1st half means Griese. And uneventful first half means more Rex.

I agree.

I think you're all simplifying it too much.

If Rex has an uneventful first half, but no points are scored and we're down 0-14? I think you see Griese.

I don't think this whole thing is keyed off turnovers. Rex must move the offense and put points up, especially if St. Louis can score.

I think that Rex's best games were against the 49ers and the 2nd half against the Giants. He really mixed the plays well and did an excellent job throwing accurately in intermediate routes.

I'd also like to point out that I don't think it's a coincidence that both of these performances came after a bad performance (Arizona for the 49ers, and the 1st half of the Giants game). I think that is why I have a slightly optimistic feeling about this game.

just here to wish the Bears luck. As luck has it, I'm working during the game and won't get to see one of the few Bears games on in my area this season. At least I'll see the playoffs.

I'm not sure what the score has to do with anything. I also seriously doubt Rex will be having a good or average game if the Bears are losing 14-0 at half. If he is looking average, then the score will be more indicative of defensive play or other people on offense turning it over.

If Rex looks bad in the first half, he's going to get pulled regardless of the score.

Maybe that's true, but I don't think the Bears will be losing 14-0 if Rex is playing mistake free.

I don't see this game being low scoring. I think St Louis will be able to move the ball, and I think the Bears can run the ball at will.

This has the potential to be a track meet if Grossman shows up.

Anyone else really nervous about Rex in this game? I'm kinda tapping my foot waiting for this game to start and it's scary to think what happens to Rex if he blows this one.

I'm nervous in the sense that I want him to shut the local and national media up for at least a week, and am not looking forward to the backpatting that will happen if he craps the bed and Griese comes in.

I'm actually more concerned about the defense than Rex.

I doubt the Rams will score much against the Bears. They are no longer the greatest show on turf. They have only scored more than 20 points once in the last 5 weeks (22 points @Sea). 3 of those games have been at home. The Bears D plays pretty well on turf too.

I miss being optimistic. The Bears vaunted defense might be without Mike Brown, Todd Johnson, Nathan Vasher and Tommie Harris for this one. They also still can't find where their QB went.

That said, I think Grossman has a mediocre game and the Bears win

Bears 17

Rams 13

Grossman 12-25 159 yards 1 TD 2 INT

Just refreshing my prediction

That kind of performance would do nothing to quell the mob.

People have to have something to talk (and write) about. Grossman's been terrible and won't get better. The defense is beat up. This combination has been spun into everything bad happening tonight -- saving perhaps an atomic bomb going off and incinerating the Bears in a blaze of specifically targeted nuclear particles.

Hogwash.

I'm looking forward to a good offensive night. The Bears will get back to establishing the run, and using the pass to exploit the defensive commitment to the run. While Grossman's been bad, a bigger problem has been the early "home run" play-calling (and passing attempts) rather than a pursuit of the run. Defenses are keying on Grossman, and establishing the run straight away will force them to react to the Bears game plan, rather than the Bears running their offense into the teeth of the opponent's plans. That's poor coaching, and its something that only the glare of attention on Grossman could conceal.

Likewise, the big D will return to properly filling their gaps and won't over-pursue (which has been a huge problem in the run game). This will close down the run, and they will look to force Bulger to win the game through the air. Someone needs to remind the boys that a focus on consistently limiting the run to 2-3 yards per rush is better than an all-or-nothing attempt (and occasional success) to take the rusher down for a significant loss.

I'm nervous for Rex only because I want him, specifically, to succeed. Generally, in football I don't pull for a specific Bear player to succeed -- but Rex is different. I like him, and I like his make-up. I think if he can get over this hump, we'll have a real by-God Quarterback we can count on.

The Bears have had instability at QB for the last two decades (as everyone knows). The first five games of this year had people hoping that problem was finally resolved with a healthy Grossman. I think it's only natural that we're all pulling for him specifically to succeed. Everyone wants the carousel to end.

Same. Not sure what it is about the guy. I don't normally root for certain players like that, but just really want him to succeed for whatever reason. Kinda like Wood and Prior.

My concern for Rex and hope for his success is only related to how it affects the team. If he bombs, I'd have no problem discarding him to the side. There's nothing about his makup, personality or anything else that makes him anymore intriguing than any other QB. In fact, I've always thought he's a little too Forrest Gump to be much of a leader. I believe any so-called self confidence comes across as forced at best. But I don't care about any of that, I only care about what he does on the field. He's done enough on the field to prove he's got the ability to do what no other Bears QB has done in the modern era, but he's also done enough to prove he's got a lot to prove. So, if he does well, I'll like that he's a good Bears QB, if he does poorly, I'd like to see somebody better brought in. He has more upside than most, and he is the current starter, so I'd prefer he does well.

The best case scenario for the Bears is probably winning the Super Bowl with Brian Griese, and having Orton develop. That is because Griese is signed long-term and has little leverage to negotiate a franchise crippling contract that Rex might be able to get if he were to fix things and play well the rest of the way. I hate the big money deals some teams give their QB's, when those guys get hurt, the team is screwed, because so much of their cap strategy centers around that QB playing great. Even when that QB is healthy, the deal makes it much more difficult to keep the rest of the team at elite status.

That being said, at this point I believe the Bears' best chance for success is with Grossman, so stick with him.

Most of what you feel about Rex seems contrary to what every other person and teamate says about him. You could be right though. I just have a different impression.

You are right about one thing though. Bears > Rex. If Rex bombs tonight, then, it's been real brother.
