I dont think Pete Rose should get in. I also think trying to compare his sins to others is wrong unless you are trying to compare them to the Black Sox. Baseball after the Black Sox scandal created a standard on gambling that I dont think should be lowered for anyone. As bad as Steriods have been for baseball could you imagine if it came out that the Detroit Tigers pitchers were throwing the balls away on purpose in the World Series for gambling purposes.

The thing about Steriods is that there is probably players from everyteam taking them. They are taking them to try to win. The reason Bonds, McGwire and Palmero took off was because they were good players to begin with. To me this isnt close to throwing games. I know Pete Rose didnt throw games but the rules of baseball are set up to keep gambling out so games wouldnt have to be thrown. What if Pete got in so deep with gamblers that he had to throw games to catch up?

I wouldnt be opposed to Steriod users being banned also. I would want to know if pain killers and speed users should be banned too. It is a slippery slope.

As for Pete Rose the player. He was probably never the best player on his own team. If he won Gold Gloves it just proves how stupid that award is. He has Hall of Fame numbers but I could name at least 50 players who I would rather have. He was a good player for a long time. He was not an all time great though.

Contrary to popular belief, steroids don't really give players "enhanced super abilities". There are plenty of ordinary players that took steroids that stayed ordinary players. Just ask Alex Sanchez.

If used correctly steroids can help out a player a lot though.

They can, but 'roids don't help players connect with the ball and guess pitches. For steroids to be effective you still need contact. They also don't help pitchers throw strikes -- they still have to be able to hit their spots (for the most part).

If we're going to ban those who did (or are even accused of doing) steroids, then we definitely need to kick out everyone who stole signs (an action which helped a player know what a pitch was, enabling them to make better contact) as well as every pitcher who used pinetar, spit etc. (actions which unnaturally made it harder to a hitter to make contact).

I'm fine if we're going to do that, but if we're going to talk about taking action, lets be consistent.

They actually can help you guess pitches, indirectly. Steroids make you stronger which will increase your bat speed. A faster bat means you can wait to swing that extra split second - which is everything in hitting. That extra split second could be the difference between recognizing a curveball and not recognizing it. So if somebody is just a bit slow, steroids can help them a lot. Obviously steroids aren't going to make your eyesight better and, don't get me wrong, professional baseball players are very good, hence the reason they are professional. But in a league full of professionals, little things distinguish you from another player and steroids can do that.
