Well, if it's true, Hendry is answering all of the critics who complain he doesn't get any top FAs. Also, I guess he doesn't just overpay for mediocre players.

Soriano is not very good. He wasn't going to be even close to the contract he was projected to get, and this 8/135 rumor is Hamptonian. It's like giving Mark DeRosa 5/60.

I don't like the years, but it needed to be done. Who knows if it's even 8 years. Plus, with this market, that's the kind of money he was going to get. And who knows, we can still add Drew. Maybe now with Ramirez and Soriano locked up, Drew will find it more appealing to come here as well.

I want smart transactions. offering too much can be a dumb transaction too. remember how much fun it was getting rid of an aging ex-superstar two years ago? now imagine trying to do it with four years left on the contract.

But on the other hand, maybe this is a sign that he's learned his lesson relative to guys that seem to have an injury bug following them around re: JD Drew.

 

Soriano and Drew were the two guys that gave us the best chance to win now, and getting one of them would be a great accomplishment.

Rosenthal says they've talked about CF but could also play him on a corner depending on what else gets done this offseason.

 

I pray it's center. His production would be incredible for CF even if he regresses from last year.
