I've just been reading some of the posts that have been made and to me it just seems that alot of cubs fans are down.

We got Lou Piniella and the majority of fans wanted Girardi. Jim Hendry is still the GM. Ramirez isnt signed (maybe you dont want him back idunno). Pierre isnt coming back. There are alot of things that are wrong wiht this team i know.

But there is a off-season right now and we have to make moves and get ready for next season.

some of the moves made by the franchise may have not been the best. But im gonna at least give Lou and the cubs a chance. Im not throwing everything out now. To me that seems what alot of fans are doing.

Look, Pitching wins games, we re-signed Wade Miller, we have Hill, Zambrano, Prior, and about 3-4 other "rookie" pitchers.

We are probably not getting Matsuzaka but mlbtraderumors.com says that we may settle for another japanese pitcher by the name of Kei Igawa.

Zambrano

Hill

Miller

Igawa

FA, or young prospect

Maybe we go out and sign Zito, or Schmidt, or Padilla, Wood should be back.

We can have the makings of a decent staff. im gonna give Hendry a chance to make moves this off-season and wee if he cant put together a decent team. As far as the field goes...

C-Barrett

1B-Lee

2B-Theriot, Cedeno

SS-Izturis

3b-(Will Ram be back?)

LF-Jones

CF-

RF-Murton

We have holes at C, and possibly 3rd if ram doesnt come back.

Our team isnt in total disarray

Maybe Hendry signes Gary Matthews, or makes a splash and get soriano, or Lee

Maybe he makes a few trade that are unexpected, if we lose Ram, or if we keep him.

Im just sayin, I think we can compete this year, lets see if Hendry can put somethin out to play everyday. And well see if Lou can be a solid manager.

We have a GM, We have a manager, and we have a team with some holes. Give the guys a chance and well see if we can put a decent team together.

The Cubs also have holes in RF, SS, and 2nd, not to mention the pitching rotation.

I like the Pinnelia signing and didn't want Girardi (I wanted Bocchey). I like what I've heard about the new hitting coach.

Re-signing Aramis only means they don't have yet another hole to fill.

The Cubs are comming off of a dismal season and there isn't that much to look forward too, right now.

"Jap pitcher?"

Call me "over PC" if you want, that's pretty funky right there.

I missed that the first time.

Also Murton plays LF and Jones plays RF.

In the NL, a lot of teams are a couple of players and a little luck away from a WS berth. At the same time, they all are a couple of injuries and a little bad luck away from sucking moose pecker.

I'm like you. I will remain neutral until I see what happens in the off-season. I still beleive a few positive moves could be made to make this team a very solid team in the NL central.

But JH has to prove to me with those great moves before I'll say I'm ready to watch this team win. We suck as is. .

Pierre isnt coming back.

This and the hiring of Perry are about the only positives to come of this offseason so far.

Down? Yes I am. I do love baseball and the Cubs though. The holes and problems that they have are real but in the end they are still my team. Good or bad I will be rooting for them. Besides a blind pig has to find a walnut sometime.

I think we have had some positives so far, Piniella and Jackson come to mind as improvements already.

Not getting ARam resigned before the window closed dosent mean that he is gone. It does mean that the money you have left has to be spent smarter if you do re-sign him. My prediction is look for a team with a heavy latin influence, especially from his home country if he dosent re-sign with the Cubs.

Sign a quality #2 or 3 guy and a swing guy for the pen on the pitching side. I honestly believe that the light has turned on for Hill. Z, Hill, FA Starter, Marshall, Prior/Miller/cast of youngsters is a pretty good rotation.

Right now the glass is, depending on your point of view, half full or half empty. I say it is the potentiality that is interesting.

You know most of us have been Cub fans all our lives. In the end, this move with Ramirez is not surprising. Who remembers losing Maddux? Yeah, we all do. Who remembers trading Rafael Palmeiro (the non steroid version) for who was it, Al Nipper and Calvin Shiraldi right?

The Cubs as an entity, regardless of who is making the decisions, are an entity that cannot be defined with any sense of logic. And because of that, we should be surprised by nothing...and we weren't...and we will continue NOT to be surprised by the fact that they are impotent as a baseball franchise and until there's a TRUE change in philosophy...it will always be that way.

But 'Go Cubs' anyway...I'll watch them even if they suck...I wish I had the power NOT to do that.

Wrong trade. Palmeiro was part of the trade to Texas for Mitch Williams and others. All the Cubs had to give up for Nipper and Schiraldi was a mediocre reliever named Lee Smith.

I don't know about "Jap pitchers," but it would have been fun if Harry were still around to say, "Hey, Steve, ya know that Igawa (or Matsuzaka) backwards is pronounced . . . "
