instead of trading the farm for wells, maybe the cubs should trade for wilkerson to play cf. i dont know what his problems last year were but he did have some good years with the expos and maybe going back to the NL would help him. he might be able to get back to form and have a 25 hr/.800+ ops year.

IIRC, he's had some forearm problems the past couple years, similar to what Eric Chavez had this season.

Wilkerson is an intriguing option. I was a big proponent of his and really thought he would tear it up in Texas. That didn't happen. He still will take a walk and get on base at a much higher clip than his average. If he hits 260 or higher, he'll likely post a 350 or higher OBP.

The problem last year was he could barely keep his BA over 200, so he barely cleared a 300 OBP. His power has also declined, and that surprised me. AFIA is a good park for left-handed hitters to hit for power, but I guess when one bats only 220, it's hard to generate much power at all.

Wilkerson is also 29 now. He's no-longer pre-prime.

He's a huge risk. If he could return to his 2004 levels he'd be pretty good. If the Cubs got him for a mid-level prospect, maybe....but he'd have to be able to still handle CF and I'm more skeptical of a comeback than I was at this point last season.

Whether it's injuries or some other factor, Wilkerson is not as young as he once was and he never really showed anything at all in 2006.

Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make. There was a whole lot of people on this site clamoring to get Wilkerson when he was available.

With the information provided, a whole lot of those people would have been right...however, we didn't know the dudes shoulder would be worse than....well Kerry Wood's shoulder. If he has a decent chance of being healthy, I would love him, he'd probably cost very little and may even be a non-tender candidate given that he'll be due about 4.5M in arbi if the rangers need his salary elsewhere. He'd be a great use of that $ to back up all 3 OF spots and spell DLee (even though he doesn't want it, he'll need it). Lou did say he wants to play his bench a lot.

Nuff Sed

i dont see how that could possibly be further away from being enough said.

you gotta give him credit, though. When you're going to write "enough said," it's best to spell it as incorrectly as possible.
