Sorry y'all if this had already been posted but I saw on ESPN News the other day, that Joe had withdrawn his name from being considered from the Nats job. Does he still want to to considered for some of the other openings around MLB? I just wish there was a way Girardi could be part of Piniella's staff--- all the openings have been filled haven't they?

I've been watching game 6 of the '86 World Series (brutal) on ESPN Classic and the news ticker at the bottom said that Girardi has decided to spend next season as a broadcaster.

It's pretty obvious that if Joe didn't get the Cubs job, he was going to hold out for the Yankees. I bet he either got assurances that Torre is on a short rope, or he just concluded it himself and is waiting it out a season to get that job.

This makes sense. Joe is very young, and let's face it that Nationals gig isn't all that attractive.

I agree, once the Cub job was gone it was probably a foregone conclusion that Girardi would sit out this year.

terry pendelton withdrew his name as well.

thought i had read where he was highly persued by the nationals.

maybe both simply figured out just how dumb their gm is.

Girardi is doing the best thing. He's getting the Marlins to pay him for the next 2 years to sit his butt in the booth. Good for you Joe. Make the Marlins pay up!!

I hope he waits out the Yankees or the Cubs either way. Good for him!!

Perhaps Joe Girardi replaces Bob Brenly in the Cubs booth if/when Brenly gets the Giants job.

It's looking as if Brenly is not even a serious candidate for the Giants' job. I'm reading Wotus, Bub Black, Acta, and Bochy all ahead of Brenly.

Girardi as a broadcaster would be brutal. Last I checked, he wasn't the most well-spoken individual. Then again, I guess he'd fit right in.

These days, those qualities win you sports Emmys

About two weeks ago, Brenly was quoted (on The Score) that he was not a candidate for any other managerial position. To the original comment, it's more likely that Steve Stone would return to the broadcast booth if Brenly departed. However, it is possible that the Cubs could add a third person to the TV or radio team (I doubt it).
