Heard on WGN the other night that Dave Kaplan said that Pierre had turned down a 3 year- 21 mil contract extension offer from the cubs. According to what Kaplan said on sports central last night, Pierre is looking for 36 mil over 4 years.

If this is true Bye-Bye Juan, in my mind your not worth half that.

Wow. No way is Juan Pierre worth 7M per season, much less 9M. 4 years? [bleep] that noise.

I could live with 3/18M at the most.

Looks like Juan is gone. Yippee!!

Yes, I wouldn't mind seeing him come back for $4-5M but noway is he he worth $7M a year for three years. Won't be sad at all to see him leave if Kaplan's scoop is true.

It’s no surprise; it was pretty obvious since last April. When he was acquired Hendry was certain he would sign a reasonable extension during spring training. He didn’t citing the belief that lead off men are more valuable in the market due to the Furcal and Damon signings, and was looking for 10 mil a year or more.

From what I've seen it seems pretty much a given that Pierre will go into free agency, which means he is gone because I'm pretty sure that he will get more money than what Hendry will offer.

from what i can tell pierre didn't like it on the north side of town. i'm glad.

But Cubs players always say they loved the northside more than anywhere else.

To be honest, he probably WOULD have loved it if we won atleast 75-85 games. But we didn't. That terrible record probably was hard for all of the Cubs players. . This was NOT a fun year, not in the slightest. . But I wouldn't pay him more than $5.5mil, so it's probably for the best.

Let Pierre walk and keep Theriot as your leadoff hitter.

Juan doesn't know what a walk is. I agree, I hope Hendry just cuts his loss and let's Jaun go, but offer Arb first. If you still get compensation that is.

I'm sorry we don't need to sign Pierre.

And to suggest that we ignore his cold start because we want to say his numbers since June indicate that he's better is ludicrous. His numbers for the season are similar to his numbers for 2005. My guess is the best OBP one can assume for Pierre in 2007 is around 330-335, and that's just not good for a lead-off hitter. Pierre is a one trick pony. I'd rather my players develop more than one trick. We should pass on Pierre. We could sign Alex Sanchez for a lot cheaper.

Pierre is just Willie Wilson part deux.

I agree. You can't ignore 1/3 of a season (April and May), whether that is good or bad, just to make a point.

Sure he does. A walk is a leisurely stroll, sometimes outdoors, sometimes indoors (such as at a mall). A longer walk is called a hike. :D

Of course, he knows what a hike is. I mean he hiked it back to the dugout from second, MANY a times this past season.
