Have any Cubs' players come out publicly with comments on Lou's hiring? I've been swamped here lately and haven't had time to read much on this. I'd like to hear some of the conversations they're having amongst themselves. For us it's a new manager, for them it's a new boss and I've been through enough bizarre new bosses ot know it's not always fun.

I think Derrek Lee loves the hiring to be honest.(just my assumption)

Does anyone remember when he was with Florida(one of their bad seasons) and he was very outspoken about the teams lack of focus and commitment to winning?

I'll see if I can find the archive.

Anyways, I think our 2 best players, Z, and Derrek, have a similiar mentallity and will get along well with Lou.

my two cents.

I know he's a lot different than 'Bake,'" reliever Scott Eyre said. "From what people have said, he's a lot more of an 'in-your-face' guy. He doesn't mess around much. I mean, he'll have fun, but once we're on the field he's very serious.

"I doubt he'll be laid-back. He wants to win, and he'll spark a fire under some people, and maybe some guys here needed that. Or, who knows? Maybe we could've just had a really terrible year."

Asked if an "in-your-face" manager was a necessity, Eyre replied: "I think some guys [need one]. I know at times I got lax and I didn't do what I was supposed to do. But I'm also 34 years old and should be able to police myself. But if he's able to do that, it'll be good for some guys."

I could have swore I read a version of these quotes where he said something along the lines of Baker throws toothpicks and Piniella throws bases.

I was thinking that Lee would be very happy with Lou.

Eyre comes off as pretty lazy, which shouldn't be surprising given that he said he was interested in joining the Cubs because they wouldn't make him run. Oh well, if he can get outs (assuming he stays - I think he might have been given a no-trade, too?) I don't care.

A Cubs.com article had the quote you were thinking of, but it's already been edited out.

Eyre is lazy, but I give him credit for commenting on it. Some guys just seem to be kind of managing themselves since Dusty was around, so I'm not sure how some of them are going to like being told what to do. I think it's more the "old style" baseball guys, and those hungry to be team players, that will do well with Lou's style. I could see Barrett, Murton and Lee liking him. Nots sure about the others.

I agree 100 percent. I was gonna post that but thought I'd start trouble. He often seems lazy. If Big Lou is gonna ride anyone, he's be a prime candiate. That guy (Aram) has so much untapped talent, if he just wasn't so lazy. Never takes a shred of leadership role.

Actually, he was the one leading the charge to try and keep the team in the wild card in 2004.

Aramis isn't nearly so lazy as the hack-job journalists would have you believe.

Funny all these hack Journalists must have followed Aramis from Pittsburgh.

No, they're just lazy. They read what others write then re-write it themselves.

Kind of like Derek "Captian Intagible" Jeter's defense.

Poor sportswriting isn't just a Chicago thing.

I think he was referring to the similar reputation that Aramis had among some fans and media members while in Pittsburgh, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, and I'm saying it's a very real possibility they are as wrong as the Chicago media is.

I've watched him play a considerable amount and it looks like he lacks hustle. He looks pretty lax when it comes to chasing down foul balls and legging out potential singles. He is also is prone to huge baserunning mistakes. I don't think Lou will stand for that, and they won't get along. That is why I think he won't come back. I wouldn't mind seeing him come back, but I'm kind of torn though, he has improved his defense tenfold, but it seems like he always gets his offensive numbers after the game is out of reach or after the team has already tanked it for the year.

I think Lou, when stuck with a crappy team similar to the 2006 model, will realize that Aramis is one of the very few bright spots and leave him the hell alone. Or Lou will be blessed with an extremely talented team and realize Aramis is one of the brightest spots and leave him the hell alone.

Aramis creates a hell of a lot more runs than he costs with his "laziness".

I don't disagree.

Are we talking about the same Aramis Ramirez that hired a personal trainer and incorporated a new stretching and diet plan last offseason, got into (better) shape and then went on to play more games in a season then he ever has in 2006 while reaching a career high in HR's and RBI's while also improving drastically on defense? That Aramis Ramirez?

Yes? Okay. Just checking.
