Unbelieveable that we're now just 2 points ahead of the worst team in the league, the Coyotes. The season looked quite promising through the first six or so games.

Hawks just lost to said team in a shootout 2-1

3-2 was the final, but the point still remains. Another blown 3rd period lead for the Hawks.

A Bulls loss and a Hawks loss. And chances are the same thing will happen tomorrow night too...

Sorry, I meant that the SO was 2-1 Coyotes

Boucher has not stopped a man on a shootout attempt so far this season. Teams are now 4/4 against him on a shootout.

And thanks for the details goony. Handzus is surprising since he was supposed to be out for the whole season. I guess Tallon is still optimistic that we'll still be in the race in March.

Boucher was real solid with Bulin out, I don't think you could have asked him to do much better than he did. However, the shootout seems to be his big weakness, he looks shaky in them, definitely needs some work on them for sure.

Hawks will likely get blown out tonight by Anaheim. Ducks are just too much for this squad.

Wow. Hawks actually come up with a shootout win, 4-3 over the Ducks. A really nice effort, Khabibulin made 42 saves in his first game back and stopped all three chances in the shootout, while Ruutu got the SO winner. Record is now up to 7-9-2, only 4 points out of the final playoff spot in the West. Also, Havlat has skated for 90 minutes for each of the last 2 days and is reportedly feeling good, they say he's targeting November 29th as his return.

What a turnaround. They lucked out last night as they got completely outplayed...but still. I would love to see some of these young guys battle for the last playoff spot. Making the playoffs this year would be a huge step in the right direction for some of these guys.

I thought the officiating was pretty terrible last night as well. 4 power plays for the Hawks...12 for the Ducks. That just should not happen, the Hawks weren't doing anything terribly obvious, most of them were weak calls.

Sure wouldn't mind them battling for a playoff spot...only 4 points out of the last spot right now in the West. An article in the Daily Herald today says Tallon is really trying to acquire a center to play with Havlat when he comes back from his injury. Can you imagine Ruutu and Havlat playing with a legit #1 center? Could be real dangerous.

I just put on the Wolves for a little while. They run their organization very well. It's pretty sad that they have better announcers than the Hawks too.

I still miss Pat Foley. I think Wiedeman is great on the radio side, but Kelly is pretty mediocre on TV.

I feel like I'm watching a video game. All he does is emphasize names. He also gets just as excited when the other team scores which throws me off if I've got it on in the background and I'm doing something else.

The irrelevent Blackhawks made the cowardly move of firing Trent Yawney. Savard is now the head coach, and Tallon is talking about wanting a more uptempo style of play. Too bad he hasn't acquired enough good players to make this team even remotely decent. They were incredibly shallow going into the season, and their only good players are hurt.

Wow...I had a dream last night that the Hawks had a press conference to announce the firing of Yawney...

It was a tough situation for Yawney, there were a lot of expectations last season and injuries to Ruutu, Daze, Khabibulin really hurt us. This year, there were even more expectations because we actually acquired some speed and talent, but then Havlat, Handzus, Khabibulin go down and once again the team is without their top players. Regardless, I felt Yawney's system just didn't work, he preached defense and the team did improve in that area, but offensively the game-plan was pretty bad, he constantly juggled lines even when they worked and inexplicably gave guys like Denis Arkhipov 17+ minutes of ice time per night. I don't blame much of the losing on Trent, but it's not a big loss to see him go.

Where were these expectations coming from? I never thought they'd do a thing. Nobody was predicting playoffs. They needed a ton of breaks to go their way just to contend for the 8th spot.

Tallon has looked pretty overmatched in the GM's spot, he was much better in the booth.

I don't think anyone was expecting them to be a Stanley Cup contender, but they should at least be a team that contends for the playoffs, and instead they sit at the bottom of the league once again. I think if everyone stayed healthy then this team would be in a lot better shape. Before Havlat, Handzus and Bulin went down they were 4-2, then when Havlat sprained his knee, Zeus tore his ACL and Bulin broke his finger, they lost seven in a row immediately. It should have at least been a more exciting year of hockey in Chicago, but instead it's been terrible.

Sure, they should contend for the playoffs, but the team, as assembled, wasn't a good bet to do so. Everybody I saw was predicting they'd miss the playoffs by a wide margin. They had some good top level talent, but nothing great, and they were very thin.

It should be interesting to see what Savard can do.

They're throwing him to the wolves. Unbelievable. He doesn't have a prayer of doing anything but embarrassing himself because the organization will just heap all the blame of the continued losing at his feet.

Some of his signings (Aucoin, Khabibulin, etc) haven't panned out as everyone hoped and thought they would. However, this past offseason he dealt Calder and Bell for Havlat, Handzus and Smolinski. I was skeptical at first, but I think those trades really upgraded the talent on this team. I don't think Tallon has been great by any means, but I don't know if he's been too bad so far.

I think getting Havlat and only having to give up Bell was an absolute steal. Bell has 6 points in 21 games this season, while Havlat has 13 points in only 6 games. That was an awesome deal. So was Calder for Handzus; Calder was a hard-worker and scored 25 goals but Handzus filled a big need. I also can't fault him for the Khabibulin and Aucoin signings; Bulin is playing well this year, unfortunately Aucoin hasn't been the #1 defenseman, PP quarterback he was promised to be.

Right. I was actually wrong with all four moves so far. I like the signings last offseason, and I was a little wary of those trades simply because Bell and Calder were my favorite Hawks and the only guys we had worth anything last year. Khabibulin has looked better this year and hopefully we can dump Aucoin on someone in need of a defenseman.

Hawks win 2-1 over the Stars in Denis Savard's coaching debut. Hawks were down 1-0 in the 3rd but tied it up with about 8 minutes to go, and Mike Modano made a big turnover that led to a Tuomo Ruutu breakaway goal with 1:40 to go. Nice for Savard to get a win in his first game.

Even nicer to get revenge on the Stars.

Hopefully this is the start of something. We play the Blues on Friday at the UC, so that's another winnable game.

even nicer that it came on a giveaway by captain pretty boy.

Savard's second game is another victory....5-2 Hawks over the Blues. Ruutu scores another on a nice wrister and continues to play well. Couldn't watch it but sounded like the Hawks dictated the play for the most part. They're now 9-12-2, things are improving, hopefully they can beat the Preds tomorrow night.
