3 Find a way to increase scoring

Make the goals bigger, or make them smaller and take away the gaolie.

Does it have anything to do with the Blackhawks?

After watching the highlights from yesterday's game...one thing that bugs me about the new announcer is that he always says "He shoots...he scores!" There are times he can just say "He scores!" we're going to know he obviously took a shot. I see the puck go in and seconds later I hear "He shoots!" it annoys me.

It is from Sports Night when they are talking about soccer.

The Blackhawks defense is TERRIBLE in front of the net. Maybe not all year, but tonight they were just plain bad.

My Blues were getting rebound after rebound and passing through the slot at will.

We were destroyed in every facet of the game, yet we still only lost by one goal. 22 total shots, 28 faceoffs won/45 lost, 0/6 on the powerplay, and the penelty kill was 25% killing the penalty. Looking at those stats, you would've thought the Hawks lost by 4 or 5 goals.

There's no doubt in my mind that we should be 4-0 this year. But I have a bad feeling we're going to be consistantly inconsistant the whole season.

btw, Martin Havlat is really really really good.

Gah, this is really a game the Hawks should've won.

Havlat looks amazing out there, but Boucher gave up a softy for the GW goal and the D is still struggling.

The faceoffs are a separate issue, but the PK and goaltending needs the defensemen to clear the front of the net. The Blues have more size up front than a lot of teams (Tkachuk, Guerin) but those passing lanes were wide open up front all game.

That move Havlat put on Wideman for his second goal was gorgeous. So much speed and finesse. I didn't know he was only 25. He is going to be a superstar.

I agree with most of what you said, but the faceoffs are not really a separate issue. I saw three power play goals were set up by easily won faceoffs. also, they do have to clear the front of the net, but Boucher shouldn't have lost site of the puck on two of the goals, on the pass that trickled under his stick or the bouncing puck out front.

I didn't word that part well. The faceoffs were definitely a big problem on the PK.

I think Boucher was just rusty, he hasn't gotten a lot of work since the preseason and it showed. Lost sight on two of the goals, and like I said before, that 4th goal should have been stopped. I think Bouch will be better as he goes on, though it will be tough considerig Khabibulin doesn't take a lot of nights off.

Hopefully you guys are enjoying Zeus... he was one of my favorite players in a Flyers uniform. He's not a great offensive player and his numbers thus far are a bit of a fluke, but he will work hard, pick up a good number of assists, and be one of your best penalty killers and checkers. I wish him lots of luck with the Hawks.

He's been great so far this season. How is Calder working out with you guys?

Lost in the excitement of the Bears, the Hawks won again...improving their record to 3-2. Did anyone watch the game?

I listened to it online. Lapointe had 2 goals. The Hawks ran out to a 3-0 lead, but the Avs (just like every other team this year) came back on the Hawks and tied it at 3, early in the 3rd period. Thankfully Lapointe scored later in the 3rd and we were able to win.

Like I said after the Blues game, I think we'll be consistanly inconsistant this year. We played a great 1st period, a below average 2nd period, and an ok 3rd period. There needs to be a way for Yawney to get these guys to play 60 hard minutes every game.

A little off topic, but I'm doing a sports event audit, and I'm supposed to critique/explain the concessions at the Hawks game. What kind of food do they have and how are the prices? Is there anything else that stands out that makes the experience extremely good/bad?

I've definitely enjoyed watching him so far this year. He's pretty physical, uses his size well, and has been very good defensively. Playing with Havlat is definitely helping him offensively, as well.

Went to the game last night. Khabibulin really won it with strong goaltending, and was the #1 star, rightfully so. Havlat's goal about a minute in was awesome, he's so exciting to watch, the most talented player the Hawks have had since Savard, IMO.

4-2 record and currently in first place. Tomorrow night they play in Dallas, who've killed us for a loooong time.

I was there too, and Khabibulin looked great, accept when handling the puck. He should just stop it and skate away. Absolutely terrible. At least three whiffs that made for some scary moments. Unfortunately I arrived a few minutes late and missed Havlat's goal.

Sloppy uninspiring game (4 shots total in the second even though they had several power plays). Faceoffs were a problem, until I got vocal about it. Then they came roaring back to tie wins at 15, only to lose the next 8 or so. Of course the refs don't help with their dekes and fakes. Just drop the damn puck.

as for the food question above....I would give you an account, but it is completely out of my price range. If I recall from a game I went to last spring,

2 slices of Connie's pizza

1 nachos

1 soda

1 beer

$27.50.

Why do they do that? I never understood why the refs spend so much time looking like they are trying to fake guys out.

I never got really turned on by hockey till I was in H.S., by then I was living in the DC area and became a Capitals fan...but boy do they suck! In the last few years I have pretty much moved away from hockey cause Ive really had nothing to root for(its one thing to root for a crappy baseball team, but a crappy baseball team AND a crappy hockey team? thats year round loseing)...Im beginning to think I should reach back to my Chicago roots and adopt the Blackhawks...afterall the only reason I became a Caps fan was cause in HS I could go to games and get ripped w/o worrying about having an ID(gotta love an 18 year old drinking age(wow i just really dated myself))

Want to make sure no one is anticipating the drop. If you start a little early you're most likely going to win the draw.
