She didn't respond to mine, but this is fine.

You said in the last mailbag, "Imagine a 1-2 combination of Pierre and Cesar Izturis in the lineup." I did imagine it and it looked a lot like the first three months of this season, and all of last year without Pierre. Do you realize Izturis has only had an OBP of .330 once in his career? We already tried Neifi Perez. Izturis is a No. 8 hitter at best. If the Cubs don't address the No. 2 spot in the lineup better than that, it will be another long season.

Theriot has shown he can handle the duties well, but I'm not sure he's an everyday player. Earlier this year, Cedeno looked like he could be the perfect No. 2 guy, and then went into an offensive funk. Izturis can bunt, isn't selfish, and is smart enough to bat second. If Pierre stays, let's hope he gets off to a better start.

I tried to dig up the old thread but couldn't find it. All I know is that this response was absolutely hilarious. Izturis should bat second because he's smart enough to bat second?

It depends on what you want from your #2 hitter. Do you want him to get on base? Do you want him to advance the runner? Sac bunts are the order of the day in Wrigley, sorry to say. We all know OBP isn't on the Cubs' radar. It won't be until MacPhail and Hendry are gone, and maybe not even then depending on who the fools in Trib Tower hire next.

I want Matt Murton to bat 2nd. I never want him to bunt. Ever. Never ever.

Not even with a runner on second with 0 outs playing for 1 run?

Its so sad that she has a job. That is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. He's smart enough to bat 2nd? Besides the overall stupidity of that statement in general, Izturis is NOT smart enough to bat second, because someone that bats second should understand the importance of getting on base and making the pitcher throw a lot of pitches. I cant, off the top of my head, think of a worse option for the #2 hitter. Mabry maybe?

No.

Someone that uses the whole field like Murton should try hitting it to RF with a chance to either advance the runner or drive him in. If he bunts they walk the next hitter to set up the inning ending double play. Also, the bunt allows one chance to drive the run in with a sac. fly as opposed to an extra chance to drive the run in with a hit.

it is a bit short sighted to say that any player should never bunt. bunting can be a big part of the game if used properly. i've seen puljos bunt and if he can do it so can murton (in the right situation).

I hope you mean bunting for a hit, unless of course you saw Pujols' one and only career sacrifice bunt during his rookie year.

Sac bunting is like taking insurance in blackjack. It might seem like the safe move at the time it's presented to you, but in the long run it just doesn't pay.

As a Cub fan I wish Pujols would sac bunt more often. If he was on my team, I would never have Pujols sac bunt in any circumstance.

Now if you have a terrible hitter like Freddie Bynum up in that situation I could see where it might be tempting to have him try to lay down a sac bunt.

I'm sorry, but having the best hitter in the league lay down a sac bunt is probably the stupidest thing I have heard. If it was a decision by Pujols, then La Russa needs to give him a talk. If it was a decision by La Russa or a coach, then they are pretty incompetent (to put it lightly).

Did anyone ever think she is PAID to give the company line, whether she beleives it or not? . . . . . . . . . NAH!! She's just stupid.

And you are supposed to refer to her as Muskat. There are never any acceptions on this.

So you'd prefer to think that she has no integrity to just plain not knowing much about baseball?

Either way she's bad right? I honestly think she just beleives that stuff others in the orginazation feed her. I was just putting other options to hate her, out there. .
