Len is bored watching the Cubs so he's been busting out some history, I posted this in the game thread but I only think that Fred is in there.

The Chicago Cubs as a franchise have never been below .500

they were once over 1,000 games over

Been at least 500 over .500 since 1906.

so glad this team was incredible in the late 1800's, early 1900's

I wonder if you started today and went backwards through time, how far back you'd have to go to get an above .500 overall record, 19xx - today. They haven't been above .500 under Tribune ownership.

It depends on how far you look back. Obviously the Cubs were over .500 looking back from 2004 to 2001.

But if you look at a minimum of five seasons, you have to go all the way back to 1906 to get above .500.

1906-today .502

1876-today 9834-9286 .514

I guess we all just missed the glory years.

"Hey look an old man let's listen!"

"The point is to tell a long pointless story that doesn't go anywhere. Like one time I had to go on a ferry to Shelbyville, I needed a new heel for my shoe so I decided to go to Morganville which is what Shelbyville was called back then. So, I tied an onion to my belt...which was the style at the time. Now to take the ferry cost a nickel and back then nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them. Give me 5 bees for a quarter we'd say. Where was I? Oh yeah, the point is I had an onion tied to my belt which was the style at the time. Now we didn't have white ones...we had big yellow ones because of the war."

I know it says thru 2005 but I just wanted to make sure it was. Becuase if you factored in the Cubs record from 2006, the Cubs record from 1907-today would be 7767-7776 thus giving them a losing record.
