Quite simply, the Chicago National League Ball Club is the worst franchise in professional sports.

There can be no rational argument to the contrary.

Bill Wirts, the Blackhawks owner, thinks he can do worse.

David Glass of the Royals thinks he has a strong case.

James Dolan of the Knicks wants a piece of this action.

Donald Sterling of the Clippers puts his team into the fold of worst run.

And will, I do I agree the Cubs are a pretty bad organization is sports, I can still think of a few teams that are worse in their history then the Cubs.

I think the Blackhawks are still worse.

In the baseball world though. Glass has much, much, MUCH less to work with than Hendry.

I'll throw Jimbo's hat in the ring for most incompetent GM in MLB. And as for '03, it has become abundantly clear we owe thanks to the Pirates for that little miracle, not Jim Hendry.

Glass is the owner. It's his fault there's nothing to work with.

At least Glass seems to be doing something about it. Since the GM was fired, the Royals have played much better baseball than before his firing. And I think he made a good hire with the new GM.

You're right about the Royals. They already field a lineup almost on par with the Cubs, and with the addition of Alex Gordon to their lineup, they'll be even better. De Jesus, Gordon, Teahen, Shealy, that's a nice core. If they had any pitching, considering the current state of the Cubs organizational direction and philosophy, I'd say the Royals might have a brighter future than the Cubs.

Sorry, but I'm sick of people asking why people don't ask Hendry and Baker about this. What makes you think they don't get asked about this? They do. They just don't care. Just because they don't act on these things doesn't mean they're not asked. They just don't care about it.

The one thing I'm not sure about that exchange is how the Phillies can lead the league in runners left on base. They have a .344 OBP and 736 runs scored on the season, while the Dodgers have a .350 OBP and 693 runs scored. Which of those teams is it far more likely that they've left more runners on base? So I would be surprised if that stat is correct-but the Cubs are probably the team with the fewest runners left on.

LOB is how many guys were left on base after 3 outs. Double plays, pick offs and caught stealing along with force outs and fly balls that nail a runner attempting to advance with less than 2 outs are just some of the ways OBP can be higher but have a lower LOB.

And the team who gets on base the least is typically going to be right there in terms of having the lowest percentage of runners left on base.

I didn't think about force outs-fielder choices may change that, but that's still a big difference there. To score 43 less runs while putting more runners on (I calculated it out by each of their at bats-the Dodgers have put about 20 more baserunners on this season). Over a 65 baserunner difference using the ways to get out mentioned above (the difference in the runners who scored+the Dodgers extra baserunners) seems remote statistically.

for current status the cubs still win out but dolan seems to be trying unfortunately his team has won championships in my life so he has a way to go. but for current garbage only the knicks and cubs can actually spend huge dollars and still be terrible...not just not win but be truly awful that takes alot of skill.
