he's played there the last few games in AA. is this a temporary switch or have they given up on him catching due to his lack of D? perhaps the tigers trade had something to do with it. if they are switching him, is his bat good enough to play rf? perhaps they will go after a good young catcher like kottaras in the off season.

Sounds like they want him to get plenty of playing time around the field, but I think that injuries played a role. The DJaxx lost Nic Jackson, Dopirak, and Cates for the year; Miguel Negron was out for awhile and Eric Patterson was promoted -- they're running thin on position depth.

Olin Wick is on the DJaxx roster now, I missed him being added. If the roster is current, they're carrying 3 catchers.

The 24-year-old Fox, a third-round pick from Michigan in 2003, is having his best season ever at the plate. He has a career-high 21 home runs and 82 RBIs in 110 games between Class-A Daytona and Double-A West Tennessee. In fact, he is the RBI leader in the Cub farm system as of Wednesday.

Fox was hitting .313 in 66 games at Daytona before earning what many felt was an overdue promotion to Double-A in June. He’s since hit .269 in 44 games for the Jaxx and on Monday night garnered a start in right field.

“He played right field and is going to play a little left and first base,” said Listach, the American League Rookie of the Year in 1992 and now in his first year as West Tenn manager. “He’s got to get his at-bats. He’s got over 20 home runs so you have to be impressed by the power numbers.”

wow his obp has taken quite a hit since coming to the southern league. .383 vs 302. Fox is having a break out year but I can't help but wonder if the fact that he was old for a High A player helped him pad his stats.

I think anytime a player is old for the league he is playing in, it will mean that we should take the numbers he produces there with a grain of salt. But a grain is a lot different than a whole shaker full. He still accomplished what he did at the A+ level and no one can take that away. A lot of what you are seeing in the drop off in production at AA thus far is due to a very slow start at West Tenn. Lately, he has been on fire. I don't think it would be fair to expect him to put up similar production in AA as he did in A+, but he should continue to offset his slow start the more he plays.

Good luck trying to get an Olin Wick baseball card.

I've heard they sell like hotcakes!

I wonder when Veal will be on a non-minor-league card.

I've heard if you need one, ask Olin. He's cornered the market on them.

BTW, does anyone know if Paweleck's brother is still selling his autograph?

Jake needs to learn another position if he wants to further his chances of making to the show. His bat is miles ahead of his D behind the plate.. by moving to RF (or at least learning the position), it gives him another option to speed up the process.

He has the arm to play there.. not sure about the range since he hasn't been tested yet.

kind of a strange position to try him at imo with guys like harvey & perhaps pie in the system. if he could handle it 3b would be a better position for him to get a chance. other than moore, i dont see many decent prospects in the cubs system at 3b.

Keep Fox behind the plate a catcher that can hit is a huge asset to have. How bad is Foxs defense?

his D is pretty bad from what i've heard. robinson (from the tigers via the nefi trade) has started out very hot in a ball and is supposed to be very good defensively.
