Well, the organization does at least one thing right. I was watching the game last night and was happy to see Phillies Hall of Fame announcer Harry Kalas leading the singing during the 7th inning stretch. He did it right - staying silent while the crowd sang the word "Cubbies" together.

I lived near Philly most of my life and even though I am not a Phillies fan (my dad raised me to root for an even more incompetent ballclub), I spent many summer nights listening to Harry call Phillie games. I remember his calls during the 1993 NL Championship season and have heard his calls from the 1980 World Series winning team. I remember crying after hearing his poem to his best friend and broadcast partner of 27 years, Richie Ashburn. He's a classy man and probably my favorite announcer in all of sports.

I know he has sang it before during games, and I'm glad the Cubs continue to have well-known visiting announcers perform "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

Kalas is great. But was he calling Brenly Bren, or mispronouncing Len's name?

Probably calling him Bren... he's a knowledgeable baseball man and certainly doesn't have any speech impediments. I don't think he'd make a mistake either.

Len made a great point. He said Kalas can make the most boring NFL game ever sound dramatic. "After 14 punts, the game was scoreless going into the 4th quarter. Which of these field weary warriors would carry his winless team to victory?"

When you announce for the Phils for 35 years, you get a lot of practice at that sort of thing

He must have been describing a Bears game.

You can have those fools. Hugh Hefner.

Sheryl Crow? Brad Pitt? Ian Kinsler? DAVE OTTO!? Kenneth Lay? Sam Walton? The infamous Mel Carnahan? Matt Winer/John Anderson/Mike Hall from ESPN?

Bah...you still win.

KU: Bill James.

That's gotta get some respect around here.

Why haven't the Royals taken advantage of that? I guess the same way they let Pujols not get picked 12 times.

I think he works for the Red Sox, doesn't he? Neyer is a Royals fan, though.
