Is this some sort of hazing by the Cubs to get the young pitchers acclimated to going on the DL at the ML level? Marshall, Marmol, and now O'Malley have all been put on the DL this year. How long will it be before Hill, Mateo, and Ryu make appearances as well? I think the Cubs can get all three on the 15 day DL by the end of the year.

Personally, the Cubs have the worst strength and conditioning coach (if they have one) and the worse medical staff in baseball. How does one team SUFFER so many injuries in the past 3 yrs?

I'm a bit surprised. I expected Marshall to be called up.
Ryu may have just been called up to provide some bullpen depth until O'Malley's next scheduled start. Marshall probably wouldn't be activated until the day he actually pitches; no need for him to be added to the roster before then when he wouldn't be available.

Len said Marshall is supposed to get one more rehab start, so I guess Ryu will actually go into the rotation.
I don't think he needs another one (he seemed ready in his last one), but if he is given one more that means the rosters will have expanded by the time he returns so nobody would need to be sent down.

Something tells me that Mateo is next, but Hill is safe.

And don't forget GuzMan.

hopefully Ryu can get out the first inning this time around.

I remember reading something in one of the Chi papers after that start that the Cubs/Rothschild noticed he was tipping his pitches. Let's see if that was it..?

And let's all just hold hands and pray that Guzman doesn't get injured, or that Baker finds a reason to take him out of the rotation now (i.e. blackmailing Hendry to trade for David Wells).. last nights start was VERY encouraging..

How is it that these get up here and all of a sudden their arms fail them?

I really think this is a sign of Hendry taking more control of the team. I don't think most of these pitchers are injured (O'malley the obvious exception). I think Hendry doesn't want them overused. Marshall isn't used to pitching 200 innings, so they set him down for awhile and give someone else a shot. Nothing to lose.

Maybe one of the many smarter-than-me NSBB'ers can answer this question:

At one time, I think the early 90's or so, the Cubs required their starters to throw twice in between starts instead of just once. Was this just a rumor or was it fact, and if it was fact, is it still going on today?
