this strike zone is huge.

I know-of course the night where we decide to be very patient is the night that the wide strike zone has already caught 2 people looking.

they just showed Prior scratching his head like he had an itch...He shouldnt do that, he might tear his rotator cuff or a ligament like that

Pierre sucks at stealing bases. He's clearly lost his confidence, as proven by his hesitation fake earlier in the inning.

His percentage is now low enough that his stolen base attempts hurt the team.

Just curious, what is the percentage. I'm not doubting you, I would just like to know.

It's been said before that 75 percent is the benchmark at which base stealing is having no effect on the team's ability to score runs. Pierre is now at 44/61, which is 72.3%

This game thread is almost as pathetic as the Cubs season has been.

Why? We'll reach 5 pages before the end of the game :D

Not likely in Premium.

FWIW, Guzman's line as of now:

5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K

Very nice.

Yep. I had to say it.

I actually thought to myself when Guzman threw the 3-0 strike to Howard that if he threw him another good pitch, it was going to be a home run-I almost wanted him to try to throw a breaking ball in that spot.

I've got him at 72.1% now.

The main point is that in considering stealing bases, you have to consider both the benefit and the cost. In all but the most specific situations, outs are more valuable than bases, which is why the break-even point for successful base-stealing is so high.

That will probably be the end for Guzman with him coming up in the order this inning. A very good outing for him-the key for him has always been throwing good strikes early in counts to set up his breaking pitch, and other than most of the 1st and a couple of batters later he did an excellent job with that tonight. This is something he can build on to hopefully have many more starts like that in the major leagues.

Thanks for the info.

No, I meant I thought that when I saw him throw the 3-0 strike right down the middle...the 3-1 pitch was the pitch Howard hit the home run.

The season ticket holders at my work are now sending out emails like this:

2 Tickets $29 Face value...make me an offer.
