"When you go with three rookies [in the rotation], it's tough," Perez said in the Tigers' clubhouse after arriving Monday from Chicago. "Like the other day (Aug. 15) we were facing Roger Clemens with [Juan] Mateo from Double A. [Mateo] pitched great that day. I don't take anything away from him, but the respect wasn't the same.

"Only one out of five starters, [Carlos] Zambrano, was healthy the whole year. They traded Maddux and a lot of good players in the organization. They have good guys, a good manager and a good general manager. But the thing was wrong this year."

Yeah, the other day when Clemens faced Mateo, that really sucked for this team. I mean, it's impossible to win with such a matchup. Okay, so they did win, but still, it wasn't a respected win, so it doesn't count the same in the standings. The Cubs need more respected veteran wins, not disrespectful rookie wins.

Maybe the thing that was wrong was that you were playing on the team Neifi.

The respect wasn't the same? Who the Hell is on even par with Clemens period? Somebody show Perez the numbers the records of respected vets vs the rookies. Oh yeah, actual numbers don't count. No wonder why these guys couldn't pull it out, they have to make excuses all the time and can never just look at themselves and admit they are not that good.

Oh yeah Neifi....you have a couple of young pitchers on the Tigers so maybe you can aquire a vet to replace them to get in first...opps, they are already in first aren't they?

That a player of Neifi's level is still getting attention from the Chicago sports press after he's gone is pathetic.

I think it's the standard thing to do after a player is traded to hear a few quotes from them about their previous team.

There needs to be a cut off point. Are they going to get a comment from the next celebrity bat kid after he gets grounded and can't make the game?

A cut off point? He JUST got traded. Give it a couple days.

NO MERCY. NO EXCUSES. GOOD DAY, SIR.

That's the first thing I thought of. I guess he doesn't figure Verlander and Miner will read the Chicago papers and see how little he thinks of rookie pitchers.

You also have to remember that Neifi's new team was playing against Chicago and the White Sox writer asked him these questions. It's not like the Tribune sent Fred Mitchell to an Aneheim/Oakland game to get comments from a former Cub.

I think Neifi also said, "When you have a second baseman with a .280 OBP it's tough to win"

As the Tigers are about to find out.

Watch him pull a Maddux on us not grounf out to the 2B every at bat

Maddux has always been dynamite after the ASB, even with the Cubs.

He probably doesn't think they are young because no successful and respected team could ever rely on young pitching.

That is one of my biggest beefs with Baker. Instead of trying to rally the team behind the kids he blames them, wrongly so, for the losing. That's not a manager I want on my team in any way, shape or form.

I ticks me off that he would bash the young pitchers.

Marshall - gave this team a ton of quality starts this year...his ERA is skewed by a few bad outings

Marmol - also had quite a few of good starts. Hitting a wall of late

Mateo has had a great game, and the last game wasn't great, but he kept his

team in the game.

Rich Hill has been alot better 2nd time around

Can you compare these guys to the Tigers young arms..no.

But they have given more to this team than Mrs. Prior and Mrs. Wood have. Or what about the choke job Jerome Williams that was counted on

as a #4 starter and couldn't find the plate.

Neifi needs a Cubs history lesson. In the year 2003 we had 2 starting pitchers named Mark Prior and Carlos Zambrano, each with only half a season in the big leagues under their belts, and they totally kicked ass and people respected them plenty.
that was a bit different.. cause we were actually WINNING

Well yesterday wasn't a great start. 0-4, first 2 outs were made on the first pitch, in all he swung at every first pitch and his last AB he grounded into a double play.
