The rule is when the ball is struck, so any deflections shouldn't impact it. The ref let it go because he decided that the guy who was 5 yards offsides wasn't a part of the play(and ultimately he didn't touch the pass), but the pass was played right in his path. Bad call IMO.

Yeah, not the worst call in the world but he was only a yard or two away from the ball. I know it didn't touch it but he couldn't have been much closer to the ball.
