I have no words for the sorrow with which that picture fills me.

An invincible hero brought low by a single, Achillesian weakness.

An injury no man could inflict, merely fate's cruel hand.

Woe unto us.

Btw, I'm still pretty annoyed by Jermaine Jones & Geoff Cameron last night. Fine players but seemingly incapable of understanding the differences in roles playing without Bradley. Jones should have moved up and been a deep distributor (like he is at Schalke) and Cameron stayed back to break up counters resulting from our high pressure.

Instead they both kind of settled in the middle not knowing what ground to cover. Klinsmann's system really relies on smart fullbacks and center mids. We got none of that last night without Evans and Bradley. This was Besler's first real shocker for the Nats and its because there was so much empty space where the center mids should've been covering that he had to step up way too high to cover Campbell or Ruiz. Omar had to step up way too wide to cover for Orozco. Kinsmann has had a lot of success with the center backs pinched close and stepping up high when Jones and Bradley pressed defensively but CR really did an awesome job spreading them out.

Howard never coming off his line to challenge crosses didn't help with Besler trying to catch up to Campbell either. Howard is a fine keeper but man, he does not react well to adversity. He spazzes out and gets indecisive.

Boo

@TaylorTwellman: four players added: Corona, Torres, Davis, Goodson while Michael Bradley is ruled out for #USAvMEX game

Those guys all suck.

Corona doesn't suck, he's just super duper redundant.

Of course, Wahl tweeted a lineup prediction that included Goodson at CB and I passed out for a few minutes.

Corona is Mexican-American Bedoya. I don't see anything special about him as a player.

I'd just as soon not relive 2011's "watching Clarence Goodson get beat like a mule against Mexico" experience. If the choice is between Goodson or Orozco, my blood pressure is the loser.

I missed the 2nd half on Friday, did the broadcast catch or comment on this?

Besler's yellow card. After CR had taken a 3-1 lead even. What an infuriating and shameful farce this is.

They never showed a replay on BeIn; Bob Ley tweeted about it that night that it was a joke, and actually seeing it is worse than just reading about it.

It's worse than any Italian dive I've seen; if anything it's a yellow for him kicking out at Besler before he dropped like he was hit by a sniper. What a joke.

So, obviously, [expletive] Joel Campbell, I hope he pulls a Vela and never makes it at Arsenal. Also, is there an appeals process to get Besler reinstated so we can not have to watch Goodson v Chicharito?

I don't think they can.

Brian Straus says there is not, which seems crazy. But I guess if you make that policy for obvious overturns like this then you'd get every card submitted for appeal or something. Ho hum, more CONCACAF injustice.

Wow, quite a response by Blatter re: Winter World Cup in Qatar

...but Mr Blatter, your ExCo knew full well, already on December 10, 2010, that a summer World Cup would be impossible to be hosted in Qatar's scorching summer...

JSB:... that may well be so, and it may well be that we made a mistake at the time. On the other hand, you must also consider political and geo-political realities. The World Cup is FIFA's biggest if not only global event. Who are we, the Europeans, to demand that this event has to cater to the needs of 800 million Europeans above all, when there are over 7 billion people who populate this planet and of who 6.2 billion are not European, but who must at all times succumb to our diktat? I think it is high time that Europe starts to understand that we do not rule the world anymore, and that some former European imperial powers can no longer impress their will on to others in far away places, and we must accept that football has moved away from being a European and South American sport: it has become the World Sport that billions of fans are excitedly following every week, everywhere in the world.

Wait, that's what he got the yellow for? Holy [expletive], that's awful!

I love the second sniper shot that comes in at the end of the gif as he crumples to the ground again.

Bedoya? Why? Was Zuzi's poor showing against CR really that much to drop him?
