Awesome US-Mexico final would see 30% American's at the stadium.

Lol, as opposed to where? Columbus? Pittsburgh?

It probably wasn't even 30% US supporters in Chicago 3 years ago.

Of course, I think the ManU to Union fan ratio in Philly might have been 10:1 for the friendly the other day.

There were audible boos every time Henry touched the ball tonight. It wasn't the Man U ratio, but it was probably 60-40 Spurs fans.

Anyone watch Galaxy-Quakes last night?

Arena is doing the same thing with Tristan Bowen that he loved to do with Altidore by playing him on the wing. He's obviously really gifted, but I have no idea what kind of finisher he is because Arena would rather pair Alan freaking Gordon with Buddle. I know they're by far the best team in the league, but that's just [expletive]. Bowen's speed with Buddle would be awesome, I'm just suspicious that he's continuing in the Eddie Johnson/Jozy Altidore mold of they can do everything to create a chance, just not put it away. Bowen physically reminds a lot of Charlie Davies.

Just letting you guys know that Kljestan was in Anderlecht's starting line-up for tonight's game (the traditional opener of the new season, the so-called Supercup between the league champion and the winner of the cup)

He was substituted after 60' by Jan Polak.

France coach Laurent Blanc will drop all 23 World Cup players for his first match next month as collective punishment for the team's embarrassing fiasco in South Africa.

The French federation said Friday in a statement it had granted Blanc permission to suspend the players at the coach's request.

It's just an opinion column, but at least someone is thinking about it:

Philip Hersh[/url]"]They also mean Chicago needs to get aboard a boat it chose to miss last fall.

With those ratings and the measure of interest shown by the large number of U.S. fans who traveled to South Africa, the international soccer federation (FIFA) would be foolish not to give the 2022 World Cup to the United States when it awards the 2018 and 2022 tournaments Dec. 2. (England has been considered the 2018 favorite.)

And, if that happens, maybe Mayor Daley (should he run and win re-election next year) will get over his hissy fit of post-Olympic-bid pique that led the city not to submit itself as one of the possible host cities in a U.S. bid. As in the case of Olympic bids, venue changes for the World Cup can be made after a city or country is picked.

Chicago will have to spend some money on Soldier Field to meet FIFA requirements, but the amount -- some $1 to $2 million -- is not be a deal-breaker. And, the experience of the 1994 World Cup, when Chicago hosted six matches (including the opener), showed how much positive exposure (and tourism dollars) it can bring the city.

In fact, Chicago could benefit more from the World Cup than the World Cup organizers would.

Because Soldier Field is smaller than stadiums in all the other 18 host city candidates -- it has more than 10,000 fewer seats than all but two of the other stadiums currently in the mix -- would be a substantial difference in ticket revenues, one of the organizers' primary revenue streams

The 1994 World Cup had nine venues. There could be a couple more the next time in the United States, given the number of new stadiums built since 1994.

Whether Daley or someone else is running the show, Chicago needs to be one of them.

There's no way Chicago isn't one of the venues.

Devann Yao scored what was according to the twitter world, a really nice goal in a reserve match for West Ham today. He's on trial. Click the link for an interesting article on Yao, his past and the struggles he's had with the USSF's endemic developmental flaws. Whereas Clint Dempsey succeeded without any help from US Soccer connects and Landon Donovan succeeded while being a constant youth fixture for US youth teams/residence programs, Devann sounds like a similar player but stuck in the middle. On the radar but without the connections. Had he grown up like Landon, he'd be on a team and maybe capped. Had he grown up like Clint, he'd have spent a few years in college soccer and then drafted highly in MLS. Instead, he was stuck in the middle. Known enough to have great youth club pedigree but too unknown for someone to take a chance on him in MLS.

Chicago would easily foot that bill to get the WC.

Kljestan stardted and scored after just six minutes in his first CL action (preliminary round) for Anderlecht.

Maradona is out, I wonder who will take a chance on him next or if he wants to go anywhere outside of club teams in Argentina?

I think we can safely rule out Italy as a possible destination.

From Soccernet:

USA striker Jozy Altordore reportedly has plenty of options for the new season. Ajax, Besiktas, Fenerbahce and two English clubs are said to want to sign him.

One English club is said to be Fulham. Not sure about the other.

Everton was reported to be interested (but those rumours date back to the end of may)
