All right; I give up. You guys win. It was a horrible trade, and Krivsky is a horrible GM. I guess those poor Reds fans will just have to wipe their tears with playoff tickets.

Yes, cause that trade is totally why they're in the playoff race.

No, but that GM definitely is. And if they don't make the playoffs, it won't be because they don't have Lopez and Kearns.

What are the moves Krivsky has made that convinces you he's the reason the Reds are in the playoff race rather than a good base of talent that was there when he got there that's finally doing mediocre enough in a horrible league to contend for a wild card spot.

point here is that as good as the two players were, they could easily afford to give them up.

The Cubs could easily afford to sign Dusty Baker to a 10 year $50 million contract, that doesn't make it a smart move.

If you're dying of thirst in the desert, and someone offers you an ice cold water bottle for $100, is it a dumb move to "overpay"?

Not if there's a guy two feet away who will set it to you for $5.

Yeah, how is Scott Williamson doing now, anyway?

1. Immediately signed Scott Hatteberg (.317/.412/.483), effective replacement for Sean Casey at a fraction of the price.

2. Traded Sammy wannabe Pena for Bronson Arroyo (10-8; 3.45)

3. Picked up Brandon Phillips (.289/.339/.435; outstanding defense) for practically nothing.

4. Picked up David Ross (.270/.364/.610; solid defense, much-needed game-calling/ pitcher-handling skills) for practically nothing.

5. Began solidifying BP by getting Eddie Guardado (8/10 sv; 1.32) for practically nothing.

There are more but these are the most impressive. Yes, the offensive talent was plentiful when he got there but Krivsky has done a masterful job of significantly improving the pitching without hurting the offense.

The Nats trade has been the biggest bust so far, but it still improved the team.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if Krivsky could have worked a deal (before the trade with the Nationals) with the Padres for Linebrink. The Padres dangled Linebrink because of their desperation for a third baseman.

A Felipe Lopez package to Padres since he has played some third base. Granted he has not played a lot of third base, but then again the Padres did settle for Todd Walker who is a good offensive pick up, but a definite gamble since he never played third.

Or even Ryan Freel could have been a posible part of a package for Linebrink rather than Lopez. It would just depend on who Towers preferred in the package Lopez or Freel.

With the Cubs, we'd buy an ice cold water bottle. Just because the bottle is cold doesn't mean there's anything in it.

Hint: We already know Hendry is stupid.

Actually, there was a rumor that the Reds offered Kearns straight up for Linebrink but were rejected.
