Top 2ND B:3 S:1 O:2

Ronny Paulino singles on a sharp ground ball to shortstop Cesar Izturis. Xavier Nady scores. Jose Castillo to 2nd.

Defense. Wins. Ballgames.

Just for clarity, that ball was hit off Zambrano's leg and deflected to Izturis at SS. No chance to make a play.

Thanks Bruno..it's hard watching Gamecast and knowing exactly what happens..can somebody describe to me the 2 Cedeno plays? I think one was in the second and 1 was in the 3rd-what has happened?

First play was a tailor made DP ball hit to Izturis, Cedeno had some trouble with the transfer at 2B and wasn't able to get the throw off in time to complete the double play.

Last Inning Bay hit a ball to left center, Izturis went out to be the relay man and Cedeno just kind of followed behind him a bit. Bay was content with a single but noticed Cedeno was nowhere near the 2B bag, so he ended up with a double.

leave it to the Cobs to always play to the level of competition

???????

When you're 4 games above the last place team (read Second to last) and playing out the string too, let me ask you how you've been doing playing at the level of other teams????

i think he might be referring to the last 10 games or so. Cubs took 2 of 3 against the Mets, and then swept the Cardinals.

Other than that, they have pretty much sucked.

by playing very well against the Cards and Mets but sucking against the Pirates. That's what I mean

Pittsburgh did well on that Nady deal.

I think so too. Will be interesting to see what he can do with consistent playing time, something he hasn't really had a lot of between SD and NYM.

Politely disagree. Nady is a poor man's Craig Wilson, and Pittsburgh already had the real Craig Wilson. Odd move.

They manhandled STL, hung with the Mets and are up on the Reds. It may or may not be 100%, but the Cubs recent history has been to struggle against some of the worse teams while playing well against the best. They've sucked against Florida, Atlanta and Washington.

So that's why you're still 4 games up on us. We've been playing decently ourselves since the break.

Wilson makes a lot more money than Nady.

True. But it seems strange to me that Wilson, who was undervalued by the Pirates, is being replaced by someone who is, in the words of some baseball analysts, "Craig Wilson lite."

I'm not too surprised that the Pirates gave up on Oliver Perez, but I look at the Pirates staff and wonder if Colburn has done more harm than good this year.

In today's Post-Gazette on line, in the Pirates Q&A section, Dejan Kova-how-ever-you-spell-it made mention that Wilson's downfall might have been personal.

CHARGE THE MOUND!!!

If Tony Larussa were managing the Cubs, Z would have already hit Jason Bay twice.

I was at Gorz' last start, against the Giants. Wright hit three Pirates.

Maybe he's making up for it here?

I'm off to catch my flight. I'll be at the game tomorrow!
