I wanted he WR that Detroit got, but I heard he stinks too. Was Cadillac available for the Bears?

Mike Williams; he's close to being cut by the Lions.

I think Cadillac went after the Bears took Benson, but I could be remembering wrong.

Edit: Yes, Cadillac went right after Benson.

I'm pretty sure you're right about that.

I wanted Ronnie Brown but he went 2. Next, I wanted Cadillac. I never warmed to Benson.

I still want to see him start, he's the most talented of the 3 the Bears have.

I wish this crap would stop, though.

New Benson quotes from the Trib

"But darn (edited). I'm afraid to let my guard down because the moment I do is the moment somebody will . . . you know what I mean?"

So you violate team rules, someone squeals, and you are mad at that?

Cedric is a complicated fella.

While reading about this story I was reminded about the Kreutz incident last year. Is this Benson thing really any worse than two teammates fighting at a shooting range? From what I've read Cedric admits he was wrong for leaving early, feels bad about it and is trying to be a better teammate. He's a little bummed about guys squeeling on him to the press though.

I think I feel a lot better about this now than I did yesterday when I first heard the story. This doesn't necessarily have to be something that drags the team down. TJones is not a stud RB and Benson has not yet shown that he is either. The competition back there is good. It's not like one blocks for the other.

I do too. This seems like one of those things that when the season starts, it will be forgotten. When Kruetz broke Miller's jaw, there were some who thought that would be detrimental to the team's morale. It never had any real impact. I don't know why everyone is surprised that there are people on the team that don't like each other.

The more interesting and exciting news is that Jones will probably play Friday and Benson looks like he isn't too far behind. The health of these guys is extremely important and it's good to see them getting back into the swing of things.

Another interesting aspect of this story is that Lovie has also apparently punished the player responsible for leaking this story to the press.

Football Outsiders/Foxsports.com ranks the Bears receiving dead last in the NFL...harsh?

Off the top of my head, I'd say accurate is more appropriate than harsh. They may have some talented young guys who could step up, but as far as showing it on the field, they've got very little. And Muhammed is just not the same guy he was when he was a stud.

I think I'm mistaken here.

Yeah...everything I've read says Lovie wants to know who it is, but hasn't found out.

San Diego at #5 is a joke. They have about the least amount of pure talent at WR in the league. McCardell and Parker had decent numbers, but I'd argue Moose over both. I also like the Bears group over Cleveland and Atlanta at least. Of course, I'm just going off of WRs, not including TEs. The Bears may be worst in the league at TE.

Ya, if you're going of TE too, Antonio Gates is a big difference maker.

I wish the Bears had a target like that to go to in the red zone.

Bears traded some OL guy named Friedman to the Browns. I honestly don't know if I've ever heard of him...

I think he started for Kruetz against the 49ers.

Ahh...the one where Grossman fumbled the snap for the TD...in that case I don't think I'll be too upset about this guy being gone...:P

I remember Lennie.

As an aside, is anybody else concerned about the lack of youth on the Bears line? I've long been concerned about depth of that unit. And the age just keeps going up. Garza is the only guy under 29. A few of them are well over 30. We are hoping for the offense to keep getting better, but it won't happen if the line suffers any setbacks. I hope they can find some young depth on the waiver wire.

PICKUP GAME: Buffalo claimed linebacker Joe Odom off waivers, two days after the Bears released him. Bills coach Dick Jauron was the Bears' coach when Odom was drafted in 2003.

ESPN is [expletive]. (Insider link)

Bold added by me:

As we head into that third game this week, let's look around the NFC North:

Chicago Bears

The Bears finally will have their top two running backs available this week as Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson return from injuries. Last week versus San Diego, rookie P.J. Pope out of Bowling Green made the most of his opportunity, gaining an impressive 56 yards on 14 carries. Adrian Peterson likely will be the starter should Jones and Benson not be able to go.

But the biggest question mark is not who will be the starting running back but rather who should be the starting quarterback? Starter Rex Grossman continues to struggle this preseason, making GM Jerry Angelo's offseason acquisition of Brian Griese look like a stroke of genius.

Unless I've COMPLETELY missed it, Cedric won't be playing this week. The rest of it is repeating what I can get for free if I pretty much go to any nfl site and look up "Chicago Bears". Good thing I have access to Insider!!!

Cedric is listed as "out" on the official injury report and has been wearing the orange "No Contact" QB jersey in every practice. Solid reporting here by ESPN.
