The Dodgers don't want this to be a two-month rental. They'd love to re-sign Maddux for another season. He's unsure whether he wants to play another year but said the Dodgers would have the upper hand in gaining his services if he does.

It probably would take the Dodgers $8 million or so to coax another year out of Maddux. There isn't much risk of him getting injured — he has never been on the disabled list.

Is that true? I thought he had been on the DL in Atlanta. He only started 25 games in '94...

After reading that article it's not hard to imagine the actual conversation between Maddog and his new catcher in the clubhouse:

"Ok kid, a few ground rules:

Number 1, don't tell when to bury a curve or climb the ladder. I know when to do that.

Number 2, I'm not gonna shake off many signs; I'm just gonna throw the pitch I wanna throw even if it's not the one you called.

Number 3, Set up early and then don't move. Just give me a target and I'll hit it. I throw it, you catch it.

Got it? Good, now let's play poker, how much money do you have?"

I believe the stat is he's never been on the DL for an arm injury, but he was on for a toe or something.

Ok...that I've heard. That's not what that article would have you believe though.

Glavine also only started 25 games in 1994, and Smoltz only started 21. Remember, that was the year shortened by the strike that wiped out the postseason.

He went on the 15-day DL in '02 for an inflamed foot tendon, IIRC.

Ha! I could see that.

Number 4: Make me some toast and eggs, beyotch.

Number 5: Never make eye contact with me. When I am speaking, you look at the floor, got it?
