The Cubs have ruled out recalling Angel Guzman or Jerome Williams, who are with Class AAA Iowa. ''Guzman is far away because they're playing in Las Vegas,'' Baker said of the Iowa Cubs.

dusty is aware of the concept of air travel, no? guzman wouldn't have to ride a mule from las vegas to chicago.

''[infield coach] Chris Speier said he didn't have the right glove or footwork right now, so we'll take three or four or five days -- however long is necessary for him to feel comfortable -- before we put him out there,'' Baker said.

maybe guzman can pick him up a glove on his walk from las vegas.

You are aware that there are differnt gloves for different positions, even SS and 2B. Typically a 2B glove is going to be a bit shorter and not as deep of pocket. Secondly, players treat their gloves like babies, Cedeno will need to get a new one and work it in a bit. Its reasonable.

The quote about Guzman being in Vegas and being able to make it to Chicago is pretty comical.

He did not say that.

No way. He cannot be using the fact that Guzman was in Vegas from Sun-Tue as a reason why he can't pitch in Chicago on Thursday. That's just not possible. He couldn't have said that. I mean, unless he means that Guzman ended up turning tricks for cash in casinos after blowing his life savings and getting addicted to heroine and therefore "he's too far away, in Vegas" takes on a whole new meaning.

If Cedeno really can't play 2nd right now because he doesn't have the right glove, that's just another example of the lack of foresight of this team. There was always a chance Ronny would play 2nd. He's done it before, and they thought he might in the offseason if they got Furcal. They knew the trading deadline was coming, and that Maddux to LA was possible, and must have known Izturis was a possible acquisition. Guys play out of position all the time in the majors, if they need a new glove for that position they have to have one around. This is just pathetic.

No, it's not reasonable at all. The glove should already be there and broken in. He's played 2nd before, and they knew there was a chance he'd play there again. This is pathetic.

I think he's pointing out that it's pretty easy to buy a glove.

Dusty is taking the stereotypes that his own behavior has created, and exceeding them with every passing day. I've never seen a manager so completely incompetent, and the fact that he fools so freaking many people is beyond mystifying.

So, you're telling me that if Neifi had to miss a game or two with the flu or something, the Cubs would have to bring up someone to play 2nd until Cedeno got a new glove?

Sure seems like Dusty is just trying to find some more ABs for his boy.

So who's starting on Thursday? Mateo?

I didn't know that a 3 or 4 hour plane ride is such a strain on an elite athlete. But what do I know...

Cedeno's just a rookie. He may not have the funds available to buy another glove.

You're kidding me, right? You know what the MLB minimun salary is, right?

Obviously, they don't even have to buy them.

I guess I don't see the big deal with Cedeno sitting a couple of games while he gets some work in at second base. I hate to see Neifi out there as much as the next guy. Give him a few days to get some work in, then play him there the majority of the rest of the year. I'm sure Dusty will get Neifi in there as well though.

hehe.

Guys can get as many gloves as they want, same goes for bats, batting clothes, spikers, whatever.

Manufactures like Louisville Slugger, Rawlings, will send these guys all they want.

Well, there's just no justification for it, that's the problem. And like he does with everything else, Dusty offered up completely BS excuses for why he can't be out there right now. It's a sign of how many excuses this team has used for their failure throughout Dusty's stay.

What is most likely true is Dusty wants to play Neifi, whether he feels he's better off with Neifi or that he owes Neifi, it doesn't matter. But Baker is choosing to play Neifi over Cedeno. He doesn't need a couple days to get used to the position, nor does he need to wait a couple days to get a new mitt.

Maybe I'm cynical, but I can't help believing that if Neifi's 2B glove were stolen or misplaced it wouldn't stop Neifi from getting a scheduled start at 2B.

The quote about Guzman is absurd, but not surprising. I fully expect Rusch to take that spot in the rotation. The only way Guzman will be in is when they send down Hill (after his next poor start, which will happen eventually).

I heard the comment about Ronny at 2B during last nights game and it's a freaking joke. I'll bet any amount of money that Neifi gets more starts at 2B then Ronny between now and the end of the year. Anyone want a piece of that action?

He owes to the game of baseball to bet his guys who "know how to play" out there for the playoff race, dude. I can already hear all the various, "Ronny's never played 2B", or "Ronny needs to rest between starts while learning a new position", or "Neifi knows this park", or "Ronny's throws tail in a funny direction when he's playing 2B" or whatever bs excuses Dusty will come up with to "justify" playing Neifi on a regular basis.

If that's truly what is happening, fine. I won't have a problem with that. Trouble is, I don't believe it. I'm guessing Neifi will get the majority of the starts for the rest of the year.

I guess I'm just not sure what the point is in complaining about this team anymore. There seem to be givens:

1. Nobody in this franchise cares about OBP.

2. Dusty Baker loves Neifi.

3. Jim Hendry loves Dusty.

4. Dusty is going to say colossally stupid things on a weekly basis.

There are continually discussions regarding these four things-I just can't take it anymore. All of them are true, and none of them are going away any time soon, so I guess what I'm saying is that I'm done pointing them out. Its too frustrating and (seeing as how there's nothing that fans can do whatsoever), pointless.

Just have to wait and see. I remember alot of the apprehension about whether or not Murton and Cedeno would be everyday players before the season began. Those doubts were very reasonable. But for the most part they have been everyday players.

I hope that is the case and Cedeno gets the majority of the time at 2nd base. I also hope he can end the season on a high note. I have never been too high on him personally, but I'd love to see him succeed.

I have no words fit for the farce that this team has become.

The Cubs were a MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM at last check. If they can't get someone on a plane, or come up with a glove, who in the hell can?

Yes - apparently I need to be a little more clear with my sarcasm.
