Oh yeah, I posted a link to an MLB.com article that claimed the Rangers have the best pitching staff in the AL, but the fourth worst offense.

I don't feel like making a new topic about it, but can anybody tell me why, with a big lead, Hill was extended through 8 innings? I wasn't watching the game because I don't get the channel, did he keep a low pitch count?

He threw 109 pitches, so not terrible. Plus, Dusty really appreciated it, because it saved his bullpen. So maybe Dusty will give Hill a slightly longer leash (I hope).

Also, I love that the "righty" comment was right under a picture which could not have more clearly shown him pitching with his left hand.

B/c Hill is a young player, he will be back down at AAA next time he gets pounded. If this was Fat Glendon, Dusty would probably say he "earned" 5 starts. It's Dusty's double standard.

He looked really good tonight. I haven't seen him pitch much at all, but was at Wrigley tonight and he was in control the vast majority of the time. He gave up a walk and a two out base hit for the 2 runs, but for the most part was right on. He really had guys off balance, had a bunch of guys seemingly guessing at the plate, and seemed like he got as many outs and strikeouts on his fastball as he did on the curve. Like I said, I havent seen him pitch much, but the impression I always got was that he threw and relied on the curve too much. From my perspective he was mixing his pitches very well tonight, and really looked composed out there too. It was fun to watch him work and I hope Hendry makes it very clear that even if he gets pounded (which as a rookie Im sure he will a couple times this year) Dusty is going to run him out there every fifth day no matter what. The kid needs the work at the major league level, and if he can continue from what he was doing tonight he has a bright future ahead of him.

Personally, I think he did it more for the psyche of Hill and allow Hill to gain the confidence that HE CAN pitch at the major league level. Personally, allowing Hill to go 8 innings (especially the way he was throwing) was the absolute RIGHT call to make. Now let's see if Hill carries this confidence into the rest of the season. If he can...that is one less question having to be answered for 2007.

He only pitched 110 pitches and plus he saved our pen for a night. Great game by Hill. Lets hope this was his breakthrough game...

I'm here to say it. I was/am a Rich Hill doubter. I just can't trust a guy whos main pitches are curveballs...too easy to start hanging them and get rocked.

That being said, congrates Rich. I hope last night was an indication of what you WILL do and not the previous starts. If you become a fixture in the rotation, and pitch that well the majority of times, I can be converted. This is the game everyone claimed he was capable of. Glad to see it.

I'm with you. I'm a major Hill doubter and I'm happy to eat crowe for a night. Good to see him have confidence and pitch a good game. Let's hope for a repeat...

I believe Rich Hill should be given opportunity to see what he can do, and believe he can be a major league pitcher, but....

while encouraging, Hill again couldn't get the fastball below mid thigh. that's fine for minor league hitters who can't recognize a curve from a strike quick enough because high 90 mph fastballs will then blow them away. it's not good enough against major league hitters in Wrigley on most occassions.

good luck Rich. get that fastball down please.

Hill did a great job yesterday I was very happy that he had a game like that. His curve ball looked outstanding yesterday, but that gave me a little concern. When Marshall comes back they seem like they are very similar pitchers and would that work against them if they were near each other in the rotation. I also have to believe that would eliminate Zito from the Cubs future if both Marshall and Hill are in the rotation next year.

Hill starting from here on out should be a top priority for the Cubs.

Then Hill and Marshall (and Guzman and Marmol and Prior -- hate to say it -- and whoever else is in or out of the mix at that future point) compete for the available rotation spots and we all argue about whether the competition is fair and who should win it.

There are so many external factors at play regarding where Zito ends up that I don't know how much Hill's and Marshall's future success really matters in that equation. I just don't see Zito as a Cub regardless, but stranger things have happened.

I see SOME similarilites, but I don't think they are similar pitchers. Rich throws a little bit harder, and Sean has more pitchers in his arsenal, and they are more polished.

With that said, it would ONLY against them, if they are put back-to-back in the rotation. If Hill and Marshall are separate by say....Guzman or Marmol, then I don't see how it would work against either.

Hilarious. Especially because the picture shows him pitching obviously left handed.
