MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers took a step to shore up their injury-riddled infield on Tuesday when they acquired infielder Tony Graffanino from the Royals for left-handed pitcher Jorge De La Rosa.

With infielders Corey Koskie and J.J. Hardy each on the disabled list -- Hardy out for the season -- the Brewers were looking for an infielder to fill a role while Koskie remained on the shelf with post-traumatic concussion syndrome.

"He can help us while we get through this injury bug right now," said Brewers GM Doug Melvin. "Hate to give up on a young arm like De La Rosa. We still think he's got a lot of potential."

Most importantly for the Brewers, the 34-year-old Graffanino will be able to fill a variety of roles throughout the infield. Tuesday's game saw three-fourths of the Brewers' Opening Day infield out because of one injury or another.

As for any future trades before the trading deadline, Melvin played it close to the vest. However, the Rangers have reportedly called the Brewers to express interest in slugger Carlos Lee. The Rangers seem willing to trade outfielder Kevin Mench and youthful pitchers.

"I made a lot of phone calls today, received a few phone calls but there's nothing else at this time," Melvin said. "We'll make a move if we think it will help the club."

The tone in that quote was that they might be more open to trading Carlos Lee. I can only hope it's to the Cubs or not in our division. Get him outta this division please.

he's a FA at the end of the year. There's a chance that whoever gets him (if he's traded-which I don't expect him to bet) will have the upper-hand on resigning him, but I wouldn't give up much of anything to get him.

The only way I'd give a considerable package for him would be in a sign and trade deal, but since I don't see that happening I'd rather wait and see what the market value will be.
