Freddy Sanchez. Actually its very good. My brother in law in Burbank used to coach baseball there. In 1992, his last year there, he would stay late and hit ground balls to some skinny kid for fun. After awhile, he got to know him and thought alot of the kid. not the biggest, best baseball player around, etc etc etc, but he worked very hard and liked the game alot. The kid wasn' happy in the least bit that Dave was leaving the position, but things are sometimes just what they need to be. That kid was Freddy. Last Tuesday, my brother in law, sister, and two nephews watched Freddy play in the All Star game. They were all very proud of him.

I thought it was a cool story. I dont know much about his professional career, but he has fans back in LA county. Congrates.

Just saw this.

Freddy's a great guy. The fans just love him. Did you see the applause he got during the All-Star intoductions? And, that totally shocked look on his face? (Actually, I thought he was also about to cry.)

Most of us in the stands saw something in Freddy that management didn't.

This is why Littlefield needs to go. Really, we have/had enough talent to be a better team than we are.

I can't say enough good things about Freddy. I hope he's here for a loooong time.

Atleast Littlefield made the trade that brought Sanchez to the Pirates.

This year will be his career year. Next year will look more like 2005 than 2006. Littlefield should have traded him while his value was high.

For your sake, I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

why do the pirates always have these players that are real good for one year, and then they are real bad after that? oliver perez comes to mind. aramis did it while in pittsburg. how has zach duke been this year?

He's 28 years old, and his #1 comp in PECOTA (with a very high score) is Joe Randa.

His BABIP is quite high, indicating that he won't keep hitting for such a high average, but to be fair, his line drive percentage is very good, so it's not like he's just hitting seeing eye grounders.

I'd love to see him do well, and it's possible that he's just a late bloomer, but if I had to bet, I'd bet against it.

true, but he's always had very good minor league numbers. outside of 44 games last year in AAA, he's hit at or above .300 at every stop.

He didn't exactly suck last year. His numbers, when he became a regular, are pretty consistent with what we're seeing this year.

Watch him hit. The guy has an incredible eye. He doesn't swing and miss much.

As for the late bloomer thing, keep in mind he was hurt for the first year we had him. If he wasn't hurt, he would have started at 2B the year Castillo came up.

Will he keep it up? I'd say his chances of doing so are as good as anyone elses at this stage.

Very True, Very True. And, in littlefield's defense, he's made a bunch of good trades. And, anyone who rips him for this past trade deadline's deals is way off base.

Still...

I don't know. Maybe 1/2 the problem is above his head (G. Ogden Nutting.)

He'll look good in blue pinstripes.

You guys will bring back Bobby Hill before you'd trade for Sanchez.

From Dejan Kovacevic: Lesson No. 1 for the 2006 season: Anyone doubting him ends up looking foolish.

I'll turn Snikel's summation around: If no one says they couldn't see him hitting in the .340s, why would anyone bet against it, other than it's so hard to attain in general?

I think he's going to be a regular for many years, and finish his career with at least .310 average.
