I didn't mean you on the flaming, just watch it will happen though.

The thought of I told you so, comes from the absolutes people throw out here. Sorry, I certainly didn't mean to offend you.

You didn't offend me I just didn't understand what you meant by the flaming.

I understand what you're trying to say about the young players and I've been as guilty as any about trying to give these guys a chance. If you've seen the Cubs throughout the years which I'm sure you have you'll see all these has been or never was vets flooding their rosters throughout the years. I just want a change but a quality young player change not just a young player change and I thought Hendry was that GM that would do so.

I don't think there are any absolutes in baseball when it comes to picking or putting together a team. I think a lot of posters think one is way is better than another like OBP for example but again I think that many of them think other sources could be used to help make a team better too. Yeah, there are many on this board that sway towards a certain thought sure they do but not everybody agrees on how OBP is broken up like slugging and others. Personally, I'd like to see a good debate and that adds to the board as well as to my enjoyment.

I really want to see a team put together that has good OBP on the top of the lineup and people in place who can drive them in. "69, '84 and the "03 teams had enough to win and didn't, heartbreakingly so. My dad is 85 and has never seen a world series,(in 45 he was overseas in ww2). It is more than frustrating. I guess what annoys me and others the most that occurs here is the juvenile name calling of players, management and the absolute view that only a few here know the true value of players.

I must admit, I usually only check in for the minor league updates, it is informative.

I think posters have different ways to voice their frustration and IMO we have stopped a lot of the name calling like Dumpster and the like. It isn't a perfect site, as I don't think anything is, but I think it's a very good one and I truely enjoy being on here. What I find that is ironic is that you like OBP and the younger players but they are often the first things you mock or voice your displeasure with.

My father also died without seeing a Cub title. He was a Yankee fan but I know he would have enjoyed my day in the sun.

I believe OBP is important in the top of a lineup, not the be all and end all of stats. Of course you have to hope for the future with your own farm hands to either play or trade which the Cubs have done. If you don't have a balance of OBP, speed, power, defense and pitching, you don't win.

I agree and I like for a team to have a nice balance of OBP, speed power, defense and pitching. I think many of us on here disagree on what percent we put on those values. I really don't think that anyone just thinks you can have some high OBP guys that can't do anything else and still win. I think it's just the values we put on them are different.

That being said I think we can have discussions like this and disagree on how to imploy them but still repect each other at the same time. I disagree with posters all the time but I respect their views and opinions because I want to hear why they fell that way. Some have changed some things I've felt strongly about and on some some subjects I feel even stronger about them than I did before.

I think most of us agree with that. In the past couple of years, the Cubs at least had the guys who could drive the runners in but didn't have the ideal OBP guys. Now, the Cubs seem to have neither.

But you seem to do the same thing by calling out others who were wrong on so-and-so player. Saying what you did in this post is far different from your other, more agressive and sometimes inflammatory posts aimed at specific groups of posters.

For the record, I was ragging on Jacque Jones before he ever stepped into a batter's box with a Cub uniform on. If it was a 1 year deal, I wouldn't have complained. He's playing better than I expected at this point, and I will give him credit for that. However, this organization's lack of ability to fill holes these last few years is what makes the Jones signing worse than it should have been.

If Jones and Murton were a platoon tandem in LF all year and there was a stud RF, I doubt Jones would get ridden as much as he has.

You're right with Grieve. For a pinch hitter, he doesn't make enough contact. The Kelton, Choi and Cruz lovefests, for the most part, are fans of a team that want nothing more than to see this teams minor league system blossom. Heck, who doesn't want that.

What I don't understand is why you aren't more interested in having discussions like this one about this team. To me, you seem more interested in flaming posters by tossing out Choi and Grieve every chance you get. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean we all have the same opinions. That's what these message boards are. A place to form and announce those opinions. Agree or disagree.

Your Todd Walker thread wasn't started as a debate about whether Walker should be DFA'd. It was started to incite posters. How do I know this? Because you tossed out names like Grieve and Choi in the first post of that thread, as if they have ANYTHING to do with Todd Walker.

I can take Todd Walker or leave him. I've hollered loud that he needs to shut his cake hole and just play ball. At the same time, I think he's the best option we have at 2nd base. I also think that part of his lack of focus is partially to the way he's treated by this organization. Call it a fault, but I can't really blame him. And I most certainly can't put any more blame on this sorry excuse for a team any more than anyone else that has anything to do with this team. The problems start with upper management and stop with the players.

Sorry for shouting, but.......

WHERE IS THE LOVE FOR THE 'HORN?

Geez!

More like WHY is the love for the 'Horn? As confusing to me as the manlove on here for Walker.

I think the lack of good players that actually answer the intial posters question proves one thing...

becoming a Chicago Cub completely ruins your career both in the short term and the long term.

First, who said they have to be good?

And second, you are wrong...there are a lot of exCubs who are doing quite well thank you.

The ones I miss the most...Grudz, Mo, Liebs.
