Just saw Melky Cabrera gun down Crede on a sweet throw, and I can't remember the last time any of our fielders threw someone out at home and thought "so THAT's what it's like to have an OF than can throw". I know Pierre couldn't throw out a disabled guy in a wheel chair, and I remember Murton gunning down someone at 1st, but can't remember anyone thrown out at home. Anyone off the cuff know when this last happened?

I think it was durning the Nixon administration.

Patterson had the nice play last year I believe where he dove and threw someone out at 2nd I think...but I have no idea when they threw someone out at the plate. My guess is that it probably was Patterson...but I can't remember anyone gunning anyone down in the last couple years even.

I remember Corey doing it late '04. It was against the Padres, I believe the game went to rain delay with the bases loaded and the Cubs with a 1 run lead or tied. Come back from delay and like the first pitch goes out to center, Corey catches and guns the guy down trying to score. that was when he had like 3 assists in 2 games.

The game he had against the Dodgers was fun.

Wow, I just looked up the top play archives.... and he did two days in a row.

August 12 vs. Padres. 3rd inning bases loaded clement on the hill. Medium depth and he guns out Khalil Greene

August 13 vs. Dodgers. 7th inning bases loaded Merker on the hill. Medium depth and he guns the guy down who knocks Barrett over hard way but he holds on and doesn't punch the guy in the face.

Well he's gone and you don't have to worry about runners being thrown out by an OF ever again.

Jacque hit the backstop screen this year. That was pretty awesome.

I think Murton threw a guy out at the plate this year in April. In fact, Matt has 3 outfield assists this year. Pierre and Jones have 1 --- total.

So he's showing me up again is he? I'll fix that, Pagan starts in left from now on until Pierre and Jones catch up.

The only one I can recall is that sweet left to first double play.

Wow. I can't remember a Cub outfield with a collective set of worse throwing arms.

Yeah, last year's outfield, despite not being an offensive powerhouse, was actually REALLY good defensively.

Burnitz and Patterson had GREAT arms.

Dude, my guys can't get assists when base runners won't test their cannons.

Meanwhile, Jacque Jones has been gunned down by outfielders as many or more times than all of our outfielders have assists.

It had to be said. #-o
