A few of my baseball nerd friends and I are starting a new Diamondmind Sim league. We have done these things for the past few years and have recently decided to start a league of our own. We are going to try to get everything organized so we can start simming games along with the 2007 season and then continuing on from there. Here is some info about the league:

Okay, so, the basics:

-Centralized DMB league using each year's projection disc, with all 30 major league teams represented. Members are encouraged to obtain a legal copy of the DMB in order to send in their lineups, otherwise many decisions may be left up to the computer manager. Head-to-head play will be considered, but is unlikely due to the numerous problems that seem to arise from such attempts.

-This will be a salary cap 'keeper' league, with free agent signings and amateur drafts occuring during each off-season. All details are still being worked out, but 80 or 90 million will likely be the cap. Minor leaguerers and free agents signed during the season will be subject to special salaries.

-There will be no cost to participate, except for those wishing to own the DMB, or with a deep enough pocket to donate a few bucks towards hosting, which does get kind of expensive. If there's ever a unanimous desire to make this a 'pay' league, where there is some collective pot and the winners get the money, it will be considered. Since this would add a potentially unpleasant edge to the league, it is, however, unlikely.

Now a bit more detailed:

-"Fan Base" awards, likely monetary, will be of significance in this league, promoting teams to win games each season instead of scrapping completely and stocking the minor leagues. GM's will be free to run their team however they see fit within the parameters set, but in order to recreate the support of a fan base, losing many games will decrease the amount of resources teams have. These "Fan Base" factors will need to be carefully considered, and suggestions are welcome.

-Initial roster size will likely be 55 players, increasing up to 65 over the next two year. 15 roster spots will be devoted strictly to players drafted over the three most recent drafts, in order to prevent GM's from stockpiling utility-type players and asking for more than their worth in trades.

-A small committee will be assembled to vote on trades, with the intention of only disallowing grossly unfair, or potentially mischevious, trades.

-Statistics will be closely followed, hopefully with a sabermetric spin to them.

Rosters will be picked by bidding on all players, and then I believe there will be message board drafts to select minor league rosters. A lot still needs to get ironed out, we just need the GM's so we can get started.

If anyone has any interest in joining or any questions PM or IM me, or just reply to this post.

You use real MLB and minor league players, correct?

correct. But not the current years stats. Each year the company, Diamondmind, puts out player projections and the season is simulated through their simulation program using the projections. This is a lot more time consuming and indepth than fantasy baseball so if you are just looking for a little bit of extra baseball than this is probably not for you. PM or IM me if you have any questions.
